Whooshing vacuum noise?

Since I have put the rear seats down in my B7 saloon to fit my bike in, I can hear a "whooshing" type noise like a vacuum or pump. I can't explain it very well, but it is coming from the back of the car and I haven't heard it before - only since the seats have been down.
Is it something to do with the suspension?
I'm more intrigued than concerned.
Thanks.

Something to do with the exhaust valves? (vacuum operated).

It happens constantly whilst driving.
If it were the exhaust valves I would have thought it would only be when l hit the Sport button and it would do it the once?

Does it do it when stationary? If so then possibly a vac leak.
Does it do it only when moving ? If so then check the boot floor for any missing grommets as a possibility. Is it the fuel pump making the noise. Any damaged seals around Windows or boot area.
Hope it's some thing simple

Hi,
It might not be anything bad, on previous cars (r26 & m3) I had a similar noise with the seats down, actually sounded quite good. Amazing how much noise the seats hide from the boot area!

Si,
The vacuum reservoir/solenoid valve is in the boot (I'm sure someone will correct me with the correct term). It's the blue thing that looks like 3 tennis ball spheres joined together.
I had the boot of my avant stripped out for some work and I could hear the type of noise you describe very clearly. I'm guessing the rear seats also help suppress the noise and that is why you are aware of it.

Yep; I think that is exactly it - the noise is to do with the vacuum system. With the seats back up it's silent again.
Thanks for all of your replies
