Rnse startup volume

Evening all. I've been having the issue with the startup volume on my rnse head unit in the rs4. I've done lots of looking on google but the posts done seem to have a solution. Has anyone found a solution to adjust it? Thanks.

I have been looking for exactly the same solution myself.... in a perfect world, it would be ideal to start up with the first few bars of ACDC's Back in Black.... at a moderately high volume....

So what exactly is the problem?
I thought all the RNS systems had menu options to control what the volume was at startup, e.g. a set level or as turned off?

No, sadly, the RNS-E doesnt have a simple 'power on' volume adjustment.
If its adjustable, its in the firmware of the unit itself and not open to adjustment by us mere mortals. Bit of a pain really.
Theres always the risk of the radio coming on with some Celine Dion, Robbie Williams or worse before you have time to hit the volume control.... :x

Are you sure? I can't remember exactly (not with my car at the moment) but im sure if you go into the sound settings, you can set both the Nav. volume and the default audio volume? Or am I dreaming? I must check later...

Coldo - you're not dreaming as you can change certain volume parameters within the menu. Startup volume is not one of them though.

In the RNS-e engineering mode there is Radio Test Menu 3 where you can set a volume figure for start-up. The only trouble is some RNS-e units accept/save the change and some don't. All three of mine don't, but I've read that some people get lucky and it's worked.

Ah yes, correct. I've since checked and all I can change is the Nav Guidance volume and the Traffic Report volume. Ohwell.

+1

I've had 2 RNS-E units (one pre-2010 and one 2010+) and it's worked on both for me - but in my alter ego as a Moderator on audiforum.us I've seen a "success rate" of maybe 50% at best for this to work - and there is no common setups, options, SW versions, etc.

So it's just pot luck...

Thanks for your replies. Is there a simple way of getting into the rnse engineering mode?

cut n pasted from http://mr-fix.info/audi-rns-e-hidden-me ... ring-mode/

RNS-E hidden menu access procedure

Turn the key to II position and wait for the RNS-E system to start.
Press and hold VOLUME/POWER knob to turn off the system.
Turn on the system again.
Press NAV button.
Press and hold upper-left soft button for 5 seconds.
Press and hold upper-right soft button. After few seconds RNS-E hidden menu will appear.
Release the button.

Although other sites advise holding the upper left button for 10 seconds...

Thanks very much. Will give this a shot in the morning. Seems daft not to give some simple adjustment on the headunit. Wouldn't mind but it's loud when it comes on.

I've got into radio test menu 3 and start up volume isn't in there.

It's the bottom one in that menu.

I wonder if the BT telephone default volume could be adjusted? Mine is very loud at first call.
