Just made an enquiry about one, I'm just wondering if anyone's got any dirt they can dish on ownership experience.
Going by values and how I would own one, I can't see myself loosing money, if I buy the right one.
Thanks guys.

Do it Jay. I nearly bought one from Redline instead of the M3. It was c.£24k at the time and wasn't a bad example at all. Really kicking myself now and clearly no chance of one at that price nowadays.

Ive owned a few 996's over the years, not turbo however. Must say great cars, with great handling. Common issues are front rads, there are 2 on 996's, 3 on gt3's and turbos possibly. The RMS is a common issue, which is the rear main seal between us the seal between the gearbox and engine. This seal is usually changed when doing a clutch change, the trick is the seal has to be inserted with a specific tool. Gearbox can be a weak point, use all gears including reverse. Otherwise bullet proof.
I do think however build quality is not as good as previous 911's.

Do some research on IMS failure too. Lots of differing opinions on causes and also prevention. Nothing conclusive, but speak to Hartech (Bolton) or JMG (Dorset) for some informed, professional advice. Not sure if they do pre-purchase inspections.

IMS is not an issue with the turbo or the gt3's. Hartech are the experts.

Sort of. I had a 996 GT2 up until a few weeks ago.
Great cars, but I never really fell in love with the 996 looks - even in its best looking form (imo)
Bloody quick though and nicely built. Turbos don't have the more common problems associated with the normal 996.

spoof that looks great. Silver really suits the 996's too. What made you sell?

I was offered silly money for it and never really drove it.
30k miles, full Porsche history, new ceramics.
I sold my M3 too, so I'm looking for new toys at the moment.

I saw a gt2 for sale for 100k, so have to wonder what money you were offered for yours!
