Sorry to ask another exhaust question

So I've owned my B7 for around 3 months now and have finally decided I want it LOUDER !!!!! After some research on here and YouTube :drink:

Couple of options what would people suggest-

1 - Non res/ Non valved Milltek...Is the drone as bad as people say ????

2 - APR catback system (don't like the tips but heard they sound unbelievable)

3 - Get rid of the precats and replace the centre resonator with a milltek straight through pipe

Bearing in mind I'm not bothered about slight power loss/gain I'm just after the noise :-)

Any input helpful thanks

I've just changed from Milltek non resonated to to resonated. The non-res sounds much better - much more of that V8 burble and just seems more urgent. The downside is the boom at around 2,000 rpm which is a boundary you cross all the time. Try driving at 40mph in 6th for any distance, you'll change down to 5th, get annoyed and either change down again or drive faster. This gets old pretty quickly. Think heavy bass with a hangover. Don't worry about the boom at motorway speeds as the revs are too high for that. It actually sounds great then.

The resonated is somewhere between standard and non resonated.

Personally, I'd stick with valved as you then have some control over the noise level and tone.

Cheers,
Bryan

If you're going for an aftermarket exhaust then go for a jcweldfab.
But for the money I'd first try disconnecting you're valves and removing the centre resonator. I wouldn't bother with a milltek centre pipe, just get an exhaust fabricator to weld in a bit of straight through pipe.
Come to audis in the park to hear a selection.

Be all over Audis in the park if I wasn't just starting my 7 days on :boohoo:

My exhaust valves have been disconnected by the previous owner, however he disconnected them right at the valve on the exhaust and their tied up in the bumper open ended, could this be slowing the car should I blank them off somehow ??

I also changed from non-res to res as I just couldn't live with the boom.

IMHO valved is a must unless you live in the middle of nowhere and/or don't mind scaring horses, etc. (I live near the New Forest so this is a factor for me as I want to be a responsible citizen).

I've done same as briggy ....but miss the higher rpms of non res :
But res pipes are more suited for my car mainly used as a family car ...
I would modify stock exhaiust , before dropping any serieous cash
On a off the shelf set up
Custom if I was doing it again

The hoses should be blanked off, two golf tees pressed in does the trick.

If they are open and the line is not shut off somewhere else you will be loosing vaccum pressure which could cause other problems.

As I said earlier and as others have said too, before spending 1 or 2k on a milltek (or even better for similar or less money, a jcweldfab) surely it's worth spending £100 on getting the centre resonators removed. This gives a lovely, non booming sound. And if it's too loud (which it isn't but if you still have the cold start feature and close neighbours you may want to quiten it a little on those early mornings) then you can reconnect the valves for those cold starts. And if I did this I'd wire the valves to a dash switch to control them independently of the sport mode, and this would also mean that when you press the button to open them, they stay open regardless of engine RPM and gears unlike the OEM sport mode.

Yes I searched and found plenty of posts worth reading...however the same could be said about any topic seeing as the car has been out nearly 10 years now

Just giving people the option to give their opinion :biggrin3:

That's for a full system. I'm sure if your budget is smaller they will do a cat back system for similar money to a milltek cat back.

A small vid from my JCWeldfab manifold back system with sports cats, Neilparfs has a pre cat delete system using standard cats so there is a slight variation in sound.

If I remember correctly they will do what ever system you desire and I think the cat back system is cheaper than a Miltek.
