What is it with other drivers?

Post by jaysrs4 » Sat Jul 04, 2015 10:48 pm

So I'm queued up at a set of lights today with no room in front of me about 3 yards off a junction to my left and I see a Citroen C8 pull up behind me trying to squeeze up my inside because he wants to turn left, I had nowhere to go and as the traffic moved forward, I did as soon as I could as the last thing I wanted was him driving down my rear quarter, as he barged up my inside with his window down, I get the finger and called a 'fcuking c**t'!!

I'm like WTF??? So I though I ain't having that, managed to turn left and followed him, no beeping or tailgaiting but fully intended to have a word at the next set of lights. Pull up next to him and its some older skinny foreign prick with his livestock sat next to him, then he starts again.

He was on the verge of a <beep> coronary and his cattle just sat there shitting herself. I'm ashamed to admit I've got out and squared up to pricks on two occasions before and they've backed off, but I haven't done it thinking they will, fully prepped for some action, however it's been where there couldn't possibly have been any witnesses.

This was right in the middle of the ring road with traffic everywhere and a lame camel sat in his passenger seat as a witness, so I thought better of it.

I try my best never to wind anyone up on the road as I value my car and life too much but seriously driving in this country is becoming utterly unbearable - I get enough grief in the week being bullied in the Smart car and take it like a man, but this prick totally took the piss. Rant over....

Mate I feel your pain, I have had loads of incidents like yours and I have to fight with myself to not get out the car but in the past being younger I have not had such control.

"Best" case.. You rare up, he backs off, you have some sort of moral victory.

"Worse" case. You rare up, he responds, you knock him out, you go down for abh/gbh. Or you push him into traffic and its a lot worse. Or he knocks you out and the same applies.

Honestly, its not worth it. Take a breath, count to 10 and move on. Lifes too short to let this <beep> get to you.

Agree! I learnt the hardest years ago, some <beep> nearly took me off my bike so had a 20 minute c u next Tuesday conversation! 10 mins up the road, hit the side of a taxi! Red mist didn't let me foresee the obvious!

You never know what's going on in the minds of some of these fuckwits, what they might be carrying with them, and how far they would go. IMO; Best to let these things go as you did.

I've gotten out of the car before, but I'm a bit older (and have a kid now) so I don't think I would in the same circumstances.

I once had a very satisfying run in with a drunk guy though. I followed him after our run in and rang the police and kept them updated on his location until they caught up with him. I was due in court as a witness, but at the last minute he changed his plea to guilty.

Pretty much sums it up. As much as I've wanted to get out and 'have a word' with some people, the chance that they're genuinely off their meds, or even have a knife or something is sadly too high to offset the satisfaction of making sure someone knew I don't appreciate being called an asshole/wanker/<beep> when not in the wrong.

I commute with a camera on my helmet. Its amazing how quick people simmer down when you point at it.
Ok, re-running some scenes has shown me to be a bit of an impatient arse.
