How Poorly is she?

Hi all, big fan, first post.
Amazed at the wealth of knowledge on this site, so hoping you great people can help me understand how poorly my old girl is.

Had my RS for a few years now, and pretty much had a trouble free time of it... Recently replaced suspension due to DRC, but that's just one of those items I was expecting at some point during ownership.

Last 2 cold starts I've had flashing EPC light and very rough idle.... Turn engine off and on, and this disappears and car runs fine.

Have run VCDS and looks like I've got some misfiring going on across multiple cylinders... Any ideas, or suggestions? Any other diagnostics I should run to help narrow down the issue? however being a :knob: I've cleared the codes after running the scan so will have to wait until it reoccurs.

Try ringing Audi customer service to see if your cars had the product enhancement campaign 28E9. This was to upgrade the coilpacks as a number of RS4's were affected.

Thanks for the feedback thus far.... In response to Rule 1. Looks like images need to be posted as URL's, let's see if this dropbox link works:

Surrey Sam, coil pack campaign has been done... Reached out to Audi as soon as I bought her to make sure, also stamped in my service book (this and software update).

Cheers!

Then I'd start checking/testing for vac leaks and making sure that the inlet manifold core plug are all secured and present.

Thanks Surrey Sam... Ran the output tests to check flap, runners and exhaust valves and all good.... All manifold plugs are present and correct, assuming you mean the 2 x plugs on each runner? 16 in total? Is it common for these pop out?

Restarted the car several times when cold today, and all has been fine, so just seems to happen when not run for a while i.e. overnight.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.... Cold weather related somehow? condensation?
If keeps occurring, I guess coil packs / plugs are likely suspects.

Cheers again!

A few ideas - how long sine the fuel filter was changed? How about the plugs/coils?

if its a specific cyl, you can swap the coil packs around and see if it follows, but the multiple / random sounds more like fuel / filter as a first step.

mine was running rough and had the same codes random misfires on a cold morning- I was due for a fuel filter change and after installing it - no issues since. I remember reading somewhere that our cars like fresh fuel filters. My Rs4 just turned 60k miles.

Thanks for the feedback voidopolis.... Issue hasn't occurred since (and she's driven daily), and no codes thrown up. Not long been serviced by my local Audi specialist, but not sure if fuel filter was replaced... I'll keep all this in mind should it start to present itself again.
Cheers!
