Revolution / pipercross filter replacement

Post by RossDagley » Sun Aug 24, 2014 6:40 pm

My revolution / pipercross filter has now killed it's second maf sensor. The foam filter is disintegrating and there's all kind of dust and crap inside my intake / MAF housing.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a replacement filter element? I want to keep the intake obviously but I need to get rid of this damn foam filter - it's now caused two breakdowns!

Help!

I know the GruppeM which the revolution one is based upon utilises a custom K&N filter.

Yeah I've had a look through the k&n site but can't match anything to the size and shape of the pipercross I currently have. I may just have to wait and phone MRC on Tuesday if no one actually knows a model number or anything.

Thanks tho!

I think MRC mainly use a panel filter for performance filters in the B7, maybe ITG do a similar size. They seem to have a good reputation for filters.

The "problem" with the panel filter is that it means returning to a standard airbox. And I'm not sure I can give up the noise of the revolution just yet!

Model number of the K&N is A076C6, whether the way it fits into the GruppeM is the same as the Revolution filter I cannot confirm having never seen a revolution air intake.

Isn't there a different piper cross one available? A dry variant?

I thought he was talking about the dry one. Yes Revolution replaced the oil treated filter with a dry one due to a lot of us having problems with Maf sensor issues. Some of us even got the filter for free after intiially buying and fitting the Revolution intakes.

I bought it second hand. It's a dry filter.

I've done about 1500 miles since fitting. First maf failed within 50 miles of fitting, and the new one failed today.

Looking inside the maf housing and intake pipes it's got a lot of dust/dirt in there. Certainly more than I'm happy with. I'm guessing it's the foam degrading, but it might just be actual dirt and dust getting through the filter.

No - I've not spoken to revolution because it only happened (this time) this afternoon :(

There shouldn't be that much dust getting through. Maybe you have a faulty or worn filter and an identical replacement might do a better job? Or is it not fitted properly and theres a little gap at the side letting in air un-filtered?

Yes as Mike says, check fitment and all's well there, take it off and hold it up to a bright light and this should show where its breaking down

I think I will take mine off and check it out too, before if effects the MAF

It was fitted by MRC - I'm hoping it is fitted well. Certainly seemed sealed before I pulled it apart.

If I hold it up to the light it's kind of translucent more at the end than at the sides. Perhaps it's that.
