Try to find out how much they paid the insurance company to buy it back.
Also, make sure the vehicle has had the VIC test done and certificated. You can tell for sure from the V5 Log Book.
If not, you won't be able to tax it.
Cat D's are always worth buying AT THE RIGHT PRICE..... That seems a little high to me, but i'm no expert.
Hope that helps.

Why? A CAT D from having the seats nicked is hardly suddenly a shitter.
I fail to understand the logic "ah but you'll sell it for much less" - yeah, and you paid much less for it too... I'd far rather have a CAT D with a full history than a "regular" car with some history missing...

There are no insurance issues with cat d.
The key is to pay the right price if you are happy with the car.
I'd say its more like £14k

Also CAT D don't require a VIC check only CAT C.. & yep the asking price is still steep...
I would say 13k-14k tops would be a fair price...

Price does seem high for a CAT D.
The thing you need to weigh up is whilst you understand that only the seats were stolen, if/when you come to seel it on you have to also explain and expect potentil buyers to also understand - so you are instantly cutting down your potential buyers.
What you also dont add on is wether other known issues have been dealt with:
1) Clutch replaced - at 70k miles if its not been done its gonna need doing very soon - thats £2,000
2) DRC replaced ? if not then thats another potential £1,800+
3) Oil Cooler replaced ? if not then its another £1,500 waiting to happen
4) Condition of tires - £1,000
5) Front Suspension Bushes replaced ? £500
i know what mine went for and not on a CAT D - so the price they are asking is high, and if the above issues havent been done then you need to knock of the price of each.
If the price is right for a CAT D then its fine - just have to go in with your eyes open. Me personally wouldnt touch a CAT D - but thats just me (See point about potential buyers above)

My car is a CAT D no running issues some tidying needed and front seat bolsters need doing as the seats put in where from a much older car.
so what did I buy....
47.8k when bought
body needs paint to look new again
phoned Audi for the history on the car and was pretty much complete with DRC all replaced and minor issue repaired and Audi provided the printout for free
With the logbook number I was able to check millage on DVLA website and all added up
my car was quite a high spec with SS+ Suspension and all the plus gadgets inside bar rear seats heated
So what did I pay for her............ £11,750 and I've had no issues in near on 4 month's of ownership.

I looked at a cat d purchase a while back and a lot of ins companies only will insure a car if they cat'd it
