ejecting the DVD

The eject button on my DVD/CD is non operative.

I have had the car seven years and I do recall ejecting the DVD in the past so I don't think its the problem where the stealer forgets to deactivate the anti theft function during the PDI.
I think the unit is called RNS-E. Does any one know how easy it is to remove a RNS-E from the car?

Keys to remove the RNS-E:

Ensure the long edge is facing outward.
Although the keys are different, it's as easy as this:

If you have
VCDS or access to one, give it a run through on the diagnostic...
Good luck!

Yes worth checking if it is disabled or not. Your memory may have faded or some clutz might have reactivated the disable when it was in for a service.

If you're using the eBay keys, wrap a layer or two of electrical insulating tape around the finger holes - as they're b45tard sharp and will slice up your fingers. I learnt the hard way!
Audi items I believe have been dipped in some sort of silicon / rubber so have a nice soft edge to them.

I used some rubberised workshop gloves!

They are the thinnest razor sharp pressed metal!

I would've thought that this is the problem too. I activated the feature with VCDS on my car and would probably forget to disable it should I ever sell the car.

If after checking you find that the eject button is enabled then once you've removed the RNS-E from the dash you only need to remove the top cover to gain access to9 the DVD drive, then you can slide the DVD out of the slot. I had this happen to me a few years ago and it only took about 5 minutes to open up the RNS-E, slide the DVD out and refit the top cover.
