Windscreen advice please

So the cars coming along nicely now (thread update hopefully this weekend) but there's one thing that's been bugging me since I bought the car and that's a chip on the windscreen that's been repaired. It was the worst thing on the the car when I bought it, and is on the complete opposite side to the tax disk.

It's not a crap job but it stands out like a sore thumb. I've been looking a places that replace screens but obviously they're not OEM - I understand OEM screens aren't available now but don't want to go buying a crappy screen that chips as soon as I collide with a small insect.

I'm based in Leeds, so if anyone knows someone local or a good franchise that uses good glass, please let me know as I want it done as soon as poss.

Many thanks

James

What makes you think OEM aren't available?

I was sure I read a thread about it but couldn't find it - perhaps it was the fact that insurance companies don't replace with OEM no?

St gobain is the oem.
Solar glass is technically the same company iirc but it's their budget range.
Make sure you get the right one with respect to rain sensor as I believe it comes factory fitted to the glass

Autoglass etc don't seem to want to fit St gabain, try your local Audi dealer as they can be competitive on replacing the windscreen, the can vary hugely though, Bexley Audi quoted me £300, Maidstone Audi want over £600.............both included fitting.

Those prices were about two years ago.

I'm getting a new screen fitted right now by auto windscreen.

It's sound insulated, tinted and top tinted as well as the rain/light sensor being pre fitted

This is what Autoglass replace with... Very standard quality is ok but not as strong as OEM.

If you do it, get it done at their workshop as doing it by the road side isn't great ....

Had an autoglass one replaced for an OEM Audi one. My auto wipers and lights work far better now.

Paid 80 quid today, seems it differs per insurance company. Looks perfect, trust me to wait until I put the car up for sale before getting a chip and scratch free windscreen
