Carbon Cleanliness....

Car duly delivered at MRC this morning for CC, De-flap and Stage 1 Map as well as a new MAF sensor and a new K+N Filter. As far as I am aware, no one has ever touched this car and it is as standard as standard can be. It's just turned 70k on the clock and runs great so my hopes for the CC, map and de-flap are that it will negate the possibility of potential problems with these areas as the car settles into middle age. It was rolling road health checked just two weeks ago (MRC again) and showed 359.1ps measured / 373.9ps corrected so I will be interested to see what gains this little lot will achieve. I have asked for before and after photo's and will post these below when I get some through - I'm expecting a coal mine in there!

Updates to follow.

Mak.

Mak - you will not be disappointed. Good start figures by the way to say it's untouched thus far. I had the full carbon clean from MRC, de-flap and Stage 2 map last month - day and night before and after.

Here's my before and after clean pics: http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... rc#p659131 and mine on MRC's rollers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_k0VJ2- ... NQ&index=1

Good luck! :beerchug:

Full Monty Mike - cant see the point of only doing half a job. Looks like we're not too far from each other - Leicester...

So when are you expecting to get the car back? Sports mode with MRC remap is awesome!

Why you going for a stage 1? Won't the deflap and filter justify going for a stage 2?

You have a PM.

Collecting on Saturday morning... I didn't think that a Stage 2 map would be worth it without more mods on board. I want to keep the car as stock as possible so wouldnt a Stage 2 be wasted?

I wanted to keep mine as stock as possible also (and I was really keen on that as I'm sure you are) but after the exhaust system then stage 2, I wouldn't go back. Some select mods at resale won't hinder it's appeal in my opinion...

Stage 2 is definitely worth it but I suspect you need pre-cats going and a system before you reap the real benefits...

Yep - that kinda confirms my thinking... I'll keep it simple for the time being I think.

I agree - it's all about budget also. I was kinda cornered on the system - one back box had a stuck valve and simply could not budge it - well, could but no actuation on it's own. £800 replace or do the system...

You don't need a new cat-back exhaust system to justify going for the Stage 2 remap, the stock system is pretty good anyway, the only real reason to change is if you want more noise. The standard manifolds are also very good, as are the main cats and if you remove the restrictive pre-cats, that alone will see good power gains.

If you are having the car carbon cleaned and de-flapped anyway, I would consider having the pre-cats gutted and have the Stage 2 map installed at the same time.

So, this is what 70,000 miles of carbon build up looks like....

Guess I was right to think it needed it...

Certainly looks like it was worth getting done, out of interest do the send you pics of any other areas that suffer from build up? You only ever see people posting pics of the valves an i was curious what else gets done
