Missed that, sorry :notworthy:
The large multifunction knob is just a pull off and swap job, but the small knob needs the faceplate removing to swap it over.

Afternoon chaps

Run into a bit of a problem yesterday. Everything was working with the RNS-E and DIS, then started up in the afternoon and well....god knows what has happened.

First thing is the RNS-E is not coming on or going off with the ignition, it just stays on all the time unless I manually turn it off. But it has shut itself down randomly when driving a few times.

Secondly I'm getting no info on the DIS from the RNS-E, but navigation and the rest is working on the RNS-E and I'm getting the turn commands.

Thirdly the bluetooth won't connect to the RNS-E and the SDS isn't working at all.

I've checked in VCDS and all the coding is correct but I have these errors that keep coming back after clearing DTC's.

From looking online it's looks like it maybe be a fault with the CAN bus connections???

But really no idea how to fix it.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Definitely looks like a CAN bus problem.

I'd try popping the fuse for the RNS-E and the BT module, it's not unknown for the BT module to lockup so it's worth power cycling it.

OK, my replies will be a bit sporadic as I'm in the USA at the moment.

No problem, appreciate the help.

Ok so I pulled some fuses, not 100% sure I did the correct ones as tbh I've never done them before.

I tried number 5, 15 and tried 39 as well, the fuses looked ok but didn't make a difference apart from having to reset the time/date.

Were these the correct numbers?

That's strange, if the CAN connections are faulty then the RNS-E won't read the time from the instruments but it should set its time from the GPS.

Looks like you're gonna have to take a look at the connections maybe. Best plan is to disconnect one device at a time - I'd suggest in the order BT, AMI, RNS-E and check with VCDS when connections to the others start working again.

The BT module is still my #1 suspect, is yours factory or retrofit? If it's retrofit then its most likely behind the glovebox which will be easy to disconnect.

Sorry, yes the RNS-E time didn't need resetting just the instruments.

I left the fuses out for 13-14 hours but still the same.

I then plugged in my old RNS-E so it was just this and the BT module and still exactly the same.

So yes looking like the BT module, it was retrofitted by pippyrips the previous owner, pretty sure he put it behind the glovebox.

I had look at the wiring with RNS-E out and noticed this wire not connected to anything. Looks like it comes from the BT module and the SDS button on the dash.

Could this be the issue maybe and if so any idea where it should be connected?

Need to know what terminals that wire is connected to before I can comment - wire colours mean nothing.

Only thought is did pippyrips used to have a CANGate - as the SDS button would need to connect to that for it to function.

I'm just guessing but I'm sure he did as like you say it wouldn't have worked otherwise.

I think I'm going to have to get someone to have a look at it, unplugging and plugging in I can just about manage, but terminals and wiring I've not a clue!

Appreciate your help Dave. Hope your enjoying the good old US of A!

Great thread about recent information about RNS upgrades

Looking at the availble units, the eat Exeo would seem the simplest as its got the correct fascias, and doens't look like has Seat printed on the unit, just on the start up screen

Would it just be a plug and play to swap this unit into my RS4, currently got the CD changer and the TV tuner setup with originl unit, i have a ross-tech to do any coding
