Autocar - the finest RS model

Post by nial335 » Tue Dec 10, 2013 10:37 pm

I couldn't wait to post this tonight. If you haven't read Autocar yet then you should all do so - it has an article about the history of the Audi RS, with a short review of every RS model to the present day. The B7 RS4 wins hands down

"the B7 variant is still regarded as Quattro GmbH's "sweet spot" and the finest RS model"

"To this day, the beautifully proportioned B7 RS4 is fondly remembered at Autocar for its fluid ride, engaging handling and superb powertrain"

And that's from the experts. None of the other RS models get any such praise. Indeed, the current models just get a factual run down. So Autocar might like the B8 RS4, but they like the B7 better. Those owners who swapped their B7 for one of the current models might want to get their hankies out.

I had to take my B7 to work today as I've been driving an A4 Allroad recently and just needed that undeniably feral experience. It is a monster but one you really enjoy spending time with, not the easiest drive when cold (this time of year) but you get warm together! - I can't see me ever letting mine go to be honest. Look at the back end of a B8 RS4 and appreciate those fake zorsts.......hmmm :(

Will buy autocar.

You can probably look at the article on line - they email the link to my phone so an internet search might bring it up

Thanks for the heads up, getting it bought in the morn

I have to say though, having driven a B8 'aggressively' round Millbrook, I'm not sure I concur.

However considering the 40k additional premium it does bring a sense of reality back to the situation!! Lol

B7 is a far prettier car too :P

I haven't driven a B8 yet but I might see if I can get a test drive when I take mine in to the stealers next. Entirely out of curiousity though, as I agree with you about the looks. Can't see myself spending 40k more on a car that looks a bit soft and underwhelming

i did nearly get rid of mine last year, and every time i get in it im thankful i didnt, i really dont know what to replace it with, maybe an apr supercharger :D ok the new RS range are new and shiney but they dont say ''get the f*** out the way '' to me the b8 and latest RS range are a bit bland, and what makes me not want to change either is they are all avants now, even the s3 is a mini avant, no sportyness about them, i would however have a b7 avant

for me the b7 ticks all the boxes and will do for a very long time

Good lad Ricky boy - I can't for the life of me think of what I would ever replace it with, apart from a quick Porsche or an Aston.

Audi really got it right with the B7, happens sometimes and brands really struggle to replicate it.

I think its about right time and positioning when they unwrap the model.

I so love bringing it out when I want, makes it feel so special and never tire of the looks she gets

One of my neighbours has a DB9 and he was well impressed when I told him I'd bought an RS4 . He's driven one and reckons that it was quicker than his Aston (!) I can't see that, perhaps he was being polite. Wouldn't mind a Porsche Turbo but not sure I'd get used to the boot being at the front and only being big enough for a handbag

I think I'd sport a clutch bag if I decided to use a Turbo ;)

My best mate has a db9 (married a rich bird) and its a lovely car. Never been in it but he,s always said we must have a head to head one day. He lives a fair distance from me know but when we get together it should be interesting!!

Db9 was one of the big disappointments I've driven - it's more show than go.
Don't get me wrong - as a gt to be seen in its hard to beat. Handling and speed however...
