Renewed my Warranty - Good deal!

Post by EddyPee » Thu Nov 21, 2013 2:56 pm

So had my RS4 for 2x years now and its not been totally problem free motoring, DRC was never done despite the selling Audi Dealer saying it was so one sides been done, the Oil Coolers been done, ive had 2x steering drive and pump issues and all the coils replaced plus a few other odds and ends. I reckon In the last year the warranty extended from the first years cover has saved me £4k, for an just an £800 outlay (Comprehensive, 15k miles, 250 excess)

So ive had my renewal letter through and logged on with some fears that this year id be getting spanked for a renewal and have been very pleasantly surprised that it wasnt the case.

The renewal for another year, comprehensive cover, 15k milege limit, £250 excess was £847! Considering the Audi assists £100 odd a year I thought that was a bit of a steal.

So ive taken the plunge and renewed for another year and will think about selling in 6 months with 6x months cover to run which should make it an attractive deal for buyers as well.

A good deal I thought!

Yip yip, is Mondial thru Audi, so i bought it with one year and have extended it for the last 2 years. Was £800 ish last year as well.

Dont know the exact criteria for the price, clearly it isnt based on previous claims as Audi are out of pocket on the work ive had done so they have be using some other criteria.

Assume mileage plays a part as im on an 07 plate, 39k miles having done approx 15k miles in 2 years.

I have an 07/52K miles car which has, for most of its life, behaved. Standard services with one (paid for) glitch at 15K when the dealership fitted new front discs and pads. DRS also had issues but was fixed under warranty and I had it inspected before the extended warranty on that ran out. All good.

This year I have had a oil dump. Spit hose which forced a rad change as my local independent could not free the couplings. Today I picked it up after having a persistent coolant leak checked. Small leaks in the main and one aux rad so replaced all three. Front discs were at their limit and back discs were shot too. So news discs and pads all round. Plus a rear suspension "clank" was traced to a broken road spring. So new ones on both rears.

Total this year inc. a service? £4800!!

I've always understood warranty co's will try to wriggle out based on "wear and tear". So I'm not sure any of this would have been covered. My question for the bored gurus is: is there a warranty out there buying so that I can protect against the only remaining parts left to be changed: engine, gearbox and shocks? Or will I be better off accruing fistfuls of pounds on a monthly basis?

Still love the car, and the pain of fixing diminishes with getting it back under my arse again, but if the ordure hits the fan w.r.t the engine/gearbox I will be unable to keep it on the road.

Your thoughts appreciated.

Duncan
