Spark Plug Life / transmission / diff oil life

Post by sync24 » Fri Nov 15, 2013 10:11 am

I am planning a bit of a interim service. My spark plugs where replaced at 49000 miles, about 18 months ago - I now have 65000 on the clock - time to replace? How about DIFF/Transmission oil - should this be replaced? I don't see it ever done in my service history.

Apart from the usual cabin filter ETC anything else that should be done? Brake Fluid was replaced around 10 months ago - so that does not need doing. Oil was done 1.5k ago.

Cheers :blackrs4:

Spark Plugs are every 6 years/60,000 miles. So they will be fine unless the car has been running poorly leading to premature fouling.

Perhaps worth getting the aircon serviced if there is no record of it being done - the oil used in the refrigerant helps keep the O-rings from drying out and get it deodorised at the same time too, keeps it smelling nice.

Some maybe sceptical (I was) but a while back I ran some Redex fuel line cleaner through mine, at the next fuel fill up...for the first time ever...I saw 300+ mile range come up on the fuel trip and a slight increase in the MPG figure. Nothing amazing, but worth the product cost.

Cheers Sam - Had my aircon re gassed in the summer [was running at 75%], I too ran RedEx through mine recently. I didn't see a increase in MPG but I am sure I noticed a subtle improvement [might have been the placebo effect though]. What I have noticed is that combined with a recent oil change and a move to Shell V-Power Nitro+ {what a great name for 'fuel'] from Momentum 99+ has given me pretty much another 45 miles per tank - I regularly see 340 miles out of a tank doing motorway miles each day - I real bonus! :biggrin2:

Consider replacing the coolant too.

And use only genuine fluids in the gearbox and rear diff - there are no aftermarket products approved for these.

Definately replace the fuel filter - but make sure the tank is less than a quarter full.
