Very poor radio reception

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone has any issues with radio reception?
I kinda expected a Shark Fin type aerial but don't have one.

Now I do have a pioneer headunit instead of the factory fit one, that was in when I bought the car.
I didn't think that should affect it unless its not connected right...
The reception is awful, sometimes can't get any stations at all, where i never had bother before in other cars.

Just wondering if it's a common issue and if there's any fix for it...

Hi Mike, was the radio reception quality good with OEM unit? If so then yes its a common issues with audis when replacing the head unit for a after market. A booster shall solve this issue. Theres one for sale on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/26125260 ... 80&ff14=83
Good luck.

You don't normally need a booster for good radio performance with an aftermarket unit - but you do need to make sure that you inject switched 12V onto the main antenna to power the amplifiers built-in to the car (this is the part that many people miss).

Cheers guys,

I bought the car second hand so never witnessed the OEM radio in it.
I'll try the wiring first and then the booster.

My understanding is that the radio aerial is elements in one of the side windows and that the shark fin is for the satnav, so it sounds like your car wasn't spec'd with an RNSe unit from the factory, which might explain why a previous owner changed to an aftermarket unit

Just a suggestion but one worth raising. I had the same issue with mine it dropped loads of channels and i would only pick up 2 of the biggest stations. Turned out that it was a USB plug in that i had in the cigarette lighter that was causing the problems didnt know until it broke so i got rid of it and the radio has been perfect since and now pick up a full list.

Does it seem worse when the rear de-mister is activated ?
