*wanted* How to discharge and remove DRC system
My Drc has failed and currently is at around 3-4 bar, instead of messing around fixing it im getting rid....just recieved KW V3 coilovers ready to be fitted.
I am mechanically minded and fitted many sets of coilovers before, with the help of how to's in forums like this one
Does anyone know of a 'how to' on here for the easiest way to depressurise and remove the DRC system and install new KW's
just looking to save time and headache's on the install. i have all the correct gear (other than kit to depressurise DRC system)
planning on installing them friday this week, then getting car corner weighted and hunter aligned after a few days settling out time..
any help much appreciated..
cheers

Re: *wanted* How to discharge and remove DRC system
well this is the best i can manage so far, it for that sexy ohlins stasis gear, instructions include removal of factory stuff unlike kw instructions, thought it might be of use to some people http://www.stasisengineering.com/sites/ ... %20V.2.pdf

Re: *wanted* How to discharge and remove DRC system
I also used the stasis instructions when I installed my KW lowering springs. I had a DRC leak sous plates and removed front struts completely to install. I also did adjustable upper control arms at same time - very worthwhile, I have done it twice now with the new SPC Motorsport version transforming the handling.
Anyway this is what I did.
Suspension install
Isolate DRC at rear of vehicle
Remove cowl trims under bonnet
Move coolant reservoir to side
Front strut removal
Remove each of the DRC lines as per bentley manual
Spray penetrate into nuts 2 days early.
Remove wheels
Remove pinch bolts on strut
Strap strut to hold in place or support on box
Remove ball joints from knuckle, maybe use chisel to open slot on knuckle or put punch under through holes and hammer upwards
Confirm distance btw ball joint on control arm and body x2
Remove lower strut bolt from lower control arm
Remove 3 bolts holding the strut plate to body - watch for washers on bolts
Remove retaining washer from locating stud on underside - pull down on top plate then push up again and destroy washer
Remove complete strut assembly fr vehicle, this may require removal of front sway bar.
Replace with stock RS4 sway bar - I had a stiffer bar on front but went back to softer std bar.
AUCA Install
Measure stock arms to strut plate
Video range of movement on stock arms when bolts loose
Remove and replace upper control arms one at a time
Adjust control arms to stock length
Longest arm should go to front of vehicle
Spin bolts opposite way
Make sure new control arms have same range of movement as stock arms
Set up arms at same distance as stock and as per bentley manual
Torque control arm bolts to 50Nm
Strut reinstall
Reinstall strut to vehicle
Install lower strut bolt and nut finger tight.
May need to jack up lower control arm to raise strut into correct position
Reinstall strut plate upper bolts and torque to 75Nm
Check correct measurements on control arm ball joints
Loosen and adjust as necessary then re torque to 50Nm
Adjust control arms to give expected camber adjustment
Insert control arm ball joints into knuckle joint, apply wd40 to ball joint ends or chisel open if reqd
Insert bolt and torque to 30 ftlb
Remove support strap or block
Install wheels
Place jack under wheel and raise to just support vehicle weight
Torque lower strut bolt to 90 Nm
Torque sway mounts 25nm
Reinstall front trim
Finish wheel well trims
Reinstall wheels
Torque sway bar 40nm +1/4 turn
Replace coolant tank
Replace engine bay trim
Fit ventilation discs to rear shocks
Replace rear springs
Open DRC valves
Replace rear under body trim
Replace wheelwell trims
I found the rear springs to be most painful, but Stasis method works.
Good luck, enjoy the feel of a tight car again in the curves.
