tips needed for my B7 RS4
tips needed for my B7 RS4
Hi!
I am new at this forum and could need some advice/tips for the following.
I have a 80000km driven RS4 and will have the infamous carbon build up cleaning done soon.
At the same time I'll have the 90000km service done and some minor modifications where you can help me:
-air filter: k&n panel, oper air filter or other?
-spark plugs: standard or other?
-oil: standard long life or other?
-water/meth ink. to prevent carbon built up? (or is this useless?)
Thanks in advance!

Re: tips needed for my B7 RS4
Hi Rob Welcome. FON
the std air cleaner will obviously be fine and will handle a fair increase in airflow , K&N panel will also do the goods and will last for ever , open filters available will be the likes of the revolution carbon or Gruppe M with both look and sound awesome , but the engine is likely to suffer from increased intake temps from the engine/exhaust manifolds unless you also run a cold air feed which will require the removal of the RH aux radiator and even then any power gains seem to be marginal i believe
The STD plugs will be all you need , they are as high a spec you will be able to get unless you choose a different heat rating
Oil Is a personal choice , but be sure to use the correct spec .and grade . most use castrol Edge 5w30 which is used for std and long life intervals,i personally wouldnt use it for 30 000km in my engine , oil is cheap ,engines are not ! i change mine every 4-5000 miles /5-8000 km
Water meth is a funny one ,I,m NO expert but it should in theory clean the CB as it acts almost like a solvent as such and is spraying directly onto the valves if a multiport system is used but it also needs to be mixed at a maximum 50% with water or the engine will need to be custom mapped to deal with it and its also corrosive and flammable at high concentrations, its been run on several cars and no definative cleaning result has been forthcoming that i,m aware of. I have a kit which i havn't fitted yet but its for cooling the inlet charge on mine which is supercharged ,
hope this bit of info is usefull

Thanks rwilsonrs for your reply.
Has anyone had their front grill (not the frame) and bumpers grills painted in gloss black? How about the rear bumpers diffuser?

I think firestarter painted his grille, can't remember if it was in gloos or not though. Look for the Mr T thread in the B7 RS4 section. I can't recall anyone painting the lower part of the rear bumper either. I do remember seeing somewhere wrap parts of it (think it was the sirround between the fake mesh and rest of the bumper) with a matt aluminium look.

I had mine wrapped in gloss black, looks a million x better. Much less hassle than painting

Re: tips needed for my B7 RS4
Dec, I think he was talking about the mesh part of the front grill rather than the surround, and at the back he was talking about the bit under the bumper not the bit on top of it.
Rob, if you are along about the bumper strip at the top of he bumper I have had mine sprayed phantom black as it would have been on a black optic car, and YoungBen had his done in carbon. But I think you meant the bit under the back bumper didn't you?

Re: tips needed for my B7 RS4
Glad to hear you have made the leap to RS range in a country famous for its driving conditions
Like you I have been looking into getting the diffuser done in high gloss on the front and read along with the grill. Still at the initial stages of finding someone with a good reputation but will get some pics to you once it is all done.

Today I installed a K&N panel filter. Tomorrow I'll find out if it makes any more noise..
