It's on V Car, that's why it's cheap.

what's a V car, and a cat C, cat D etc? is there somewhere i can look it up?

i apoligise for my ignorance

but if you could explain, it would be a great help! :notworthy:

@D_K - 60k miles would be great... does the price mainly reflect the miles?

thank you for all your time and effort :biggrin3:

i thought it was specific to RS4's, so my search came back fruitless... wasn't being lazy, honest!

so it has basically been in a knock or crash of some sort... so is this a no-no? considering the massive price reduction?

you get what you pay for with a vcar.

It has been in an accident and the insurers decided not to repair it. either becuase it wasn't worth their while (financially) or becuase the damage was so bad they didnt think they could do it.

Given that these cars are worth around 20k, that should give you some idea of the damage, right?

So someone buys it from an insurer (usually an auction), repairs it, then applys to get it it back on the road.

its all legal, but you get what you pay for and you will have to convince someone else to take that risk if you ever sell it on. it will not magically EVER be worth more than the same as any car not a vcar, they do not expire after x years, it is a risk that will be with the car until it gets crushed.

If you have limited funds and want to take that risk then go for it.

personally, I would never buy something on vcar and nor will 95% of everyone else out there (that was a guess btw)

its your call. with these cars, set your budget and spend it, you will get what you pay for.

Anyhting on a V car i would walk away from - you knever know how well its been repaired. Buit if you want to take the chance and have what COULD be a bargain then worth a punt.

As others have said $20k should fine you a nice 60k miler.

If i was selling mine (on 63k miles) i would be looking for around the £20k mark.

Depends...
cat d can be anything from stolen recovered after payout to just having the seats nicked.
It simply means the insurance company felt the car was beyond economic repair. Any amount you save now you'll lose when you come to resell so any benefit is very small.

One of the Arnold Clark dealers has a red 40k mileage one for sale. Around Glasgow area. The audi used car site always stocks some nice ones but like you said they are getting quite rare.

I've also heard before that some insurers won't insure cars that are cat C or D and imagine they'd be even less keen on doing it for a car that's insurance group 20. I'm terms of resale value you probably wouldn't lose more than an hpi clear one and as values drop for both in a few years I'm sure you will get people that want an £8K RS4 despite it being cat D. I assume they have to pass some kind of inspection after the repair work has been done but if tempted then its worth getting an independant check.

I might be thinking of very reluctantly selling mine (sprint blue saloon 65k miles miltek non red HPI CLEAR!) in a couple of months so will bear you in mind if so. I'm just through in Fife.

Where does age fit into this Dave?

i.e. how much less is a 60k '06 versus a 60k '57 … of similar spec and standard. ?

i wanted an rs4 for years and bought 1 in april this year. i drove 2, both same colour same spec. 1st car was 56 plate with 50k and second was 06 with 88k. i could honestly not tell an difference in either car despite mileage difference. there were obviously a few more little marks on the higher mileage car but not something that was unbearable to live with, however there was over £6k difference in price. i opted for the cheaper 88k car and have to say its been superb and with the cash saved have just upgraded our every day car. mileage isnt an issue, condition and maintenance is. good luck wth the search!!
