Tyres...

Im sure I will be shot down in flames now but I will proceed anyway. The RS is not far off eating another set of tyres. So I would like to find a cheaper alternative to my last two sets of Conti 3's and have come across Falken FK 452's at around £140 per corner. My dad has these on his Jag XJ which is a big heavy car, albeit not as powerful, but he seems to think they are fine. They also seem to have generally good reviews. I know you can also get Avon ZZ5's for around the same price. I had Avon ZZ3's on both of my old e46 M3's and they seemed fine also. Please remember I do not by any means think of myself as Michael Schumacher, but do like 'spirited' driving most of the time, and will do the odd trackday. What are your thoughts people?

You don't have the be Michael Schumacher to feel the benefit either. You'll be thankful you bought them when you manage to stop safely in the rain.

Contis are absolute pony.

And Pirelli PZero Rossos are even worse than that.

LOL, yes P-Zeros are also crap.

I'm thinking Usain Bolt in a pair of worn out 99p Woolworths Plimsoles (you know, the black ones with the elasticaed bit at the side).

A lot of people on the forum run Vredsteins, as do I, without any issues. So much of the tyre reviews I read are *so* subjective and unrepeatable they are useless.

This review seems to rate the Avon ZZ5's on an S5 which is a high powered 4 wheel drive Audi. What do you think about that?

Tony. I ran them too. First 2K to bed-in (that's a long time). Then fine for about 4-5k if IIRC. Then overheated really easily and turned to sloppy sh1t (see dangerous).
Always good in the wet though.
* I really wanted them to be better than they were.

GY F1's are night and day compared to the Vreds.
