Trading sideways > RS4 to S8

Post by kidyamlo » Tue Jun 18, 2013 8:45 pm

Posting here as the S8 forum is like a ghost town... I'm looking to trade my RS4 for an S8 and wanted to know if anybody has had any dealings with Nick Johnson Motor Co. and if they wouldn't mind sharing. Have my eye on this particular car http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/ ... 07/1072992

Not had any dealings personally but I seem to remember they were quite highly regarded by Evo mag...I think they specialise in both RS4s and M3 CSLs??

I can deal with cocky fuckers - I'm one myself occasionally. Hopefully it's still hanging around. Will find out tomorrow. The previous owner is listed as an Audi enthusiast (aren't we all) so perhaps they are on this forum? I know all the main things to watch out for when buying a used RS4 (although missed rusty rad pipes when buying mine) but not these beasts - Lambo derived V10 with a Milltek sounds like the way to go. Getting tired of the RS4 and fancy a large barge for a while :-)

This all bodes well. Thanks for your feedback.

Any thoughts on my decision to swap out for an S8? Yes, no, don't know, I'm a muppet... etc?

Stupidly, stupidly, mental car for the money. Only a sensible person would by an S8 now!

I mean 17k for a car that retailed at 70k all of 6 years ago!

I've not really read much about the performance and having just looked I'm a tad disappointed to be honest. 5.1 - 60? I was expecting more from that V10 and only 444hp.

However as a package, that's a damn fine car - awesome bragging rights at the bar with fingerprint start and a Gallardo derived lump ;-)

No sure I'd go sideways for one though, I think an RS4 is much more of an enthusiast's car. An S8 strikes me as a bit of a very rich company directors car, who wants status over a drivers car.

I think you'll regret it ;-)

My RS doesn't sound so far off this at the mo with its non-res, but... droooool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOe870sAnmo

And more room for the kids!

Yeah, fingerprint start - WTF is that? I get pissed off enough having to turn a key AND press a button... :-)

Looks nice although there are a few around with ceramic brakes for not much more.

I don't want ceramics - the bills will be big enough in years to come without adding a new set of those bad boys.

Thats true.

Assuming the S8 has the same brakes as my S6 it will make fairly short work of them but at circa £250 for discs and £70 for pads they arent very expensive compared to the RS models.

I've always thought about getting one of these one day. I've liked the S8 since i saw Ronin. They are a hell of a lot of car for the money (2nd hand), with some great tech.

I have to point out though that the engine is not dervied from a Lambo, but the other way round. It started of as the 3.2 V6 as found in the A3, then became the 4.2 V8, then became the 5.0/5.2 V10.

However, if I had one, I would probably still claim that it was Lambo derived engine.

I am very much in a BIG BARGE kind of mood - I do love my RS, and I've spent a fair bit of cash on it... but just had child no.3 and it's a job on to squeeze three in the back (entirely possible and hardly grounds to get rid of it immediately) but this looks roomy as all hell, the boot looks massive... I am getting very middle-aged. I do love the look of it though, especially in Daytona. Anyway, not to get ahead of myself... I'll see what's what when I view it.
