To Sell or Not? and What to get? Help!

Post by sidzz » Thu Apr 25, 2013 5:24 pm

My B7 RS4 has now done almost 100k miles and i'm thinking its time to get something a bit newer that wont spend so much time going in and out the garage for problems. I don't want to get rid of it, best car i have ever owned.
My list of replacements is as follows: v10 rs6, rs3, nissan gtr, small 3seater van and a noble m12 gto3r?
I've just test driven an rs6 today, and whilst its an awsome machine, great interior and lots of toys,, and that Power... but it just felt a little disconnected for driving pleasure.

Has anyone gone from an rs4 to an rs3.. i would like to hear your thoughts, as well as anyone who's made a move to any of the cars listed above
or if anyone has any other suggestion, please let me know.
Space is not really an issue, as long as its not a saloon, for loading, 4 seats are better than 2
Thanks
Sidzz

Maserati Granturismo, about the same money as a GTR. It is a fair bit slower but with looks and an engine note to die for.

Post in RS3 part on the forum too. I'm sure there'll be some one there who's gone from RS4 to RS3

I just bought a gtr after selling my supercharged B7. Gtr has the same performance as the charged b7 but its a big car and you feel it

Depends on what you need from a car TBH. There are a number of B7 RS4 owners that have gone to RS3's myself included and I'm coming up for 6 months of ownership.

Looked at the C6 RS6 saloon and like you whilst toys and immense power are addictive it's a big car, wouldn't fit in my garage and I couldn't live with the fuel costs. I went RS3 because I still wanted 4WD, needed 4 doors and a boot for the family and something pretty fast. By spending half the money I did on the RS4 modifying the 3 I'll get to have a faster, nimbler car with up to 50% better fuel economy and a sublime gearbox and tractable engine with launch control (he he :FIREdevil:). Downsides are noise, interior not as good but the same size (more leg space in rear for kids), noise, not having DRC, did I mention noise?

Nissan GT-R, very quick but if you have kids, they better not have legs. Masser GT, my dream car if it had a bigger boot and non Ferrari servicing costs. You think your RS4 is expensive to run! Van + Noble, if they fitted my lifestyle I would perhaps entertain this but get an M400 rather than a 3R. Always found the 2.5 to be better than the 3R anyway

HTH!

I looked at the Maserati Granturismo, skip it - you'll need the 4.7 to have any fun and that'll cost as will servicing. Me, I'd look at the E90 M3, they've fallen dramatically in price but you'll be indoors in winter or the GTR but servicing is high. P_G's right with the RS3, it's a great car to move onto but the tax is £600 - ouch!

This one's just gone up for sale in black http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=103594

Or just go for a lightweight summer run-around like an Elise - that's what I'm looking at but I'm going for the 111R or SC.

M3 didn't do anything for me when I drove one on Monday. Was a 10 plate carbon black coupe

3 seat van and an Aston Martin V8 Vantage?

Or what about a B8 S4 with the MRC treatment (480bhp?).

997TT?

Merc C63 AMG?

I second the Merc C63....I pick mine up in an hour....

The engine is sublime and it's a generation newer than the B7. Deals are great on new ones but prices are softening quickly secondhand.

It will never have the grip or cornering prowess of the B7 but it has character and practicality..

I've just sold my Granturismo 4.7.They look and sound fantastic, drive very well, but are just too big to have any great fun in.I've just bought the wife a new MINI Paceman so I don't need 4 seats anymore, I've test drove the new Cayman
( fantastic) the new Subaru BRZ (great fun for £25k) and I'm driving the F Type Jag this morning.I'm also considering a used R8 V10

The £600 is the first year showroom tax, IIRC tax to buy after that will be a snip at £280 rather then the £490 most of you post April 2006 RS4 owners pay!

I've got the rs3 (had it since january) 2012 and have also now got the b7 rs4

The rs3 is great - explosive acceleration, entertaining (and very impressive) launch control, immense brakes, comfortable (mine has comfort seats), relatively economical (when it needs to be) sounds good at full chat too and is a relatively practical 4 door "family" car too....

All that being said, I prefer the RS4. To me anyway the rs4 ticks ALL the boxes for me whereas the rs3 great car though it is, I can see I will tire of after a while as it doesn't quite tick as many boxes and the missing "ticks" will eventually irk me enough to want to get rid of it

In your situation though having had the rs4 for a while and assuming you don't want the new avant, I'd go for (in order of preference) 4 door c63 amg, rs3, GTR. None will be quite as IMO complete a car as the rs4 tho....

I was all set to buy a GTR (not a brand new one) but has a last minute change of heart and got the rs3 instead and the c63 is on my "car for a year or two down the line" list...

Trust me.
The RS 3 does not have immense brakes.
I had to change the fluid and pads after some spirited driving fooked them up.
They are ok for normal road use, but not "RS" driving
