dealer de-carbon description

Post by Parptoot » Wed Apr 10, 2013 8:39 am

Hello all,
Can someone please tell me what is on the receipt or documentation from Audi once you've had the de-carbon done by them? Does it actually say 'de-carbon' or is it something more cryptic?

I don't know of anyone who's had it done at an Audi stealer tbh - personally I wouldn't trust them to touch it.

I've heard that the "official" advice is to spray a product into the intake- complete waste of time.

On any sign of carbon issues, such as sticky flaps/EPC lights then Audi do not repair they generally spec up a new inlet manifold at £3k++ including labour.

I wasn't going to let them near it, when/if I get one, I just needed to know what was the official name for it so if I see it in the cars documentation I can tick it off the to do list.

I never saw the invoice when I had mine cleaned under warranty. My EPC light came on, although car was running fine and left it into the dealer. About 5 weeks later I got it back and Audi UK and Audi warranty shared the £10K odd bill. Outside of the carbon clean they also replaced various engine parts (belts, tensioners, pumps and so on). I asked for a copy of the bill but never got one.

It will not have been done by Audi. You've got like a 0.5% chance to buying one that had it done by Audi as they only service and repair cars. And still a tiny chance its been done at all as its not really necessary for the majority of cars.

I was quoted 1600 for supply and fit of new manifold from dealer.

So, from what I can understand from the replies--

1 - Audi are unlikely to have done this at all.
2 - If they had have done it I would see an enormous bill possibly going into thousands in the vehicle history file I have.

If that's all true then I don't think it's already been done, anywhere. That's fine by me as it means I can safely go ahead and arrange for it to be inspected and done if needed.
Thanks, chaps
