Hi I have an amazing RS and I'm thinking about changing my factory fitted RNS-E into the 193G mode,l to get better resolution etc. THE car has factory fitted tv tuner and the new universal Bluetooth cradle In the armrest. Is it just plug and play?
Have read somewhere that there is a problem with the unit not receiving the speed signal correctly and that can cause problems in tunnels etc.
Thanks
RNS-E 2010+ In RS4 b7, problematic?
Re: RNS-E 2010+ In RS4 b7, problematic?
Many have done it and the electrical connections side of things is straightforward. Search on the B7 forum for RNSe 2010+ and you'll find loads of info.
You need to change the faceplate over but that's not difficult, just a fiddle. You'll need access to VCDS to change the coding of the unit so it knows it's in an A4 and to set up your Bluetooth etc - without a recode the unit will do all sorts of weird things...
TV tuner won't work anyway 'cos the analogue signal isn't being broadcast anymore.
I did it ages ago and have never had any problems with speed signal etc.
Personally I'd suggest you go for a 193B spec unit not 193G because the G has gloss piano black screen surround which could look out of place in the RS - unless of course you have piano black trims in the dash & doors, in which case it would look perfect.
Oh and of course, FON

I think you might have rerad about the speed signal issues in the C5 RS6 forum. I think they are slightly different but the B7 RS4 ahould be ok.

They are very different, on the C5 the speed signal isn't on the CAN bus - which is where the 2010+ RNS-E expects it to be.MikeFish wrote:I think you might have rerad about the speed signal issues in the C5 RS6 forum. I think they are slightly different but the B7 RS4 ahould be ok.
On the B7 there is no problem at all fitting the 2010+ RNS-E, all the pinouts are the same as the pre-2010 RNS-E and all the coding is the same.
