Problems with CD changer

I have just sold my CD changer from my RS4 to another RS4 owner as I didn't use it. It was the glove box mounted 6 cd changer version (standard VAG kit), linked to a standard RNS-E head unit. He has the same model car and head unit apparently.

The chap (who lives in Belgium) has connected it up and although it powers up without problem, the changer won't accept any discs into it.

I can't remember with the changer (and can't check for myself now!!) whether there was a certain knack to gettign it to take your discs in - for example do you just slot them in and it goes into the next available magazine slot, or do you place it up against the slot and then press one of the numbered buttons to put it in that particualr magazine slot. Can someone who has this changer confirm (it is this type...http://www.satnavsystems.com/main/audi- ... /#tabs-1-3)

Has anyone come across this issue (and resolved it) before? I suppose it coudl always have been damaged in transit, i just feel like a bit of a sh*t givign that as my answer before I've tried to find out what the problem and a potential solution might be.

Cheers
Chris

Has he tried pushing the button on the top right of the front of the autochanger that says load?

If it is empty don't you have to press load then the slot number you want to load?

You are probably right. I think I must have been confusing it with the eject function.

If he's adding the changer and didn't have one before, the RNSe will almost certainly need re-coding thru VCDS otherwise it won't know it's there, and presumably won't work properly

That's true of every option except the CD changer - which just works even if the coding doesn't include CD changer. The only effect of not coding for the CD changer is that the RNS-E will log fault codes, but the CD changer will work 100% as normal .

Jesus, if he couldn't figure that out he shouldn't be allowed to walk the streets, let alone drive a car.
