DRC Front shocks leaking - HELP

Post by mof777 » Fri Feb 08, 2013 4:41 pm

ok so this has been covered but i really need to establish the situation today rather than old posts.

car has been into audi today for coil pack and oil pipe recall. however theyve found the following;

ive got a knock on the front and yes its the drc. the two front shocks are leaking and they say theres no goodwill

is that it guys?? we get nothing for a problem that is renowned to fail. anyone had theres replaced lately and will they last anyway??

whether the car is older than 5 years is irrelevant to me as theyve just done work today FOC on the coil packs

let me know - it seems it depends how knowledgeable a dealer may be. as i understand if its leaking then its going to have lost pressure - hence the knock

The FOC on the coil packs is because they were subject to a recall; there's never been a recall on DRC in the UK, but Audi ran an informal 5 year / 75k mile goodwill programme on it.

What's the age & mileage of your car?

its an 07 with 55k on it. to be fair now though even if you had a 57 plate one of the last its gonna be over 5 years old now

Goodwill is down to the individual dealer. I had my front dampers replaced with a 40% discount. But I do have another rs which I have and will have serviced by them so this all counted in my favour. That being said no goodwill was offered on my oil cooler pipes !

Mine had all four dampers replaced under the 5 year scheme in 2009. I bought the car in April last year, 25,000 miles after this was done. The car has a full and regular Audi S/H at a variety of dealers.

On Monday this week it went into my local dealer for the first time for a basic oil service in which I supplied the oil, so they didn't really make that much on it. I got on well with them and was leant their B8 RS4 demo for the day. During the check up they picked up that the f/n/s damper was just starting to weep and the top collar was broken. They recommended changing both front dampers at a cost of £900....

In light of the full service history and the fact that all four were changed previously (albeit over 3 years and 35,000 miles ago) I contacted Audi UK customer services by email. They rang me a day later and suggested going back to the dealer for goodwill, and that they would consider intervening if we couldn't agree on it.

Within two minutes the dealer offered me 70% off the cost. I bit his hand off, and am now booked in for two new dampers at a cost to me of £270 which I reckon is a bit of a result!

Basically, try the dealer again - particularly if you have a good S/H. If you don't have any joy then try involving Audi UK. Good luck.

Proper result from the main dealer yesterday.Mine is a 57 with 68K on it,took it in for a service and told them to look at the DRC and a sticky clutch peddle. They pressurised the system and the valve popped so they replaced it as goodwill, problem solved. They took it for a test drive to see about the clutch. The technician could'nt get the peddle to stick but started to change the slave cylinder anyway, obviously without authorising it with me first so they had to carry out the work also as goodwill.Problem solved

Experience on here seems to be that you'll struggle to get anything out of some 3rd party warranty companies for leaking DRC shocks, because their engineers tend to class it as wear and tear (which, strictly speaking, it is) - if that happens, taking it to another Audi dealer is unlikely to make a difference, because it's not Audi that make the decision. The Audi used warranty is generally much better on DRC.

now £600 tcat for two shocks doesnt sound too bad. i thought the shocks were around £225 each and then there would be a bit of labour to recharge the drc. Audi will not pay anything out of speaking to customer services

£600 for a single shock to be replaced. Although my local dealership has told me that shocks are usually replaced in pairs. My rear shock has gone, dealer suggested that 1 of the front ones is replaced too... Really. :audibash:
