Arrrghhh! Help required please.

Mr RS4 is telling me that the boot is open (flashing boot on diagram on dash) when it's clearly closed. The alarm also keeps going off (presumably related).

Boot is pretty mucky inside so could it be that some gunk has got into / is obscuring the sensor? Would this cause the symptoms described? Does anyone know where the sensor(s) is?

It's also been freezing here over the last couple of days so could this perhaps be an icing-up issue instead?

Not sure if its the same with the RS4
But MK4 golfs beetles etc and may effect other vw- audi models
They had an issues with the drivers door lock catch - the jaw type thing in the door it has sensors in that tell the car when it's locked and stuff it's all connected to that lock IIRC.
I've replaced one on my mrs beetle and one on my mates golf and its a pain of a job to do.
Door locks are about £105 from TPS off memory.

Sorry just remembered that was the drivers door issues not the tailgate - got mixed up cause we had both issues around the same time.

The tailgate was a leak from the rear wash wipe that furred up all the switch electrical connections .
Clean all the connectors up spray plenty of WD on and check for any leaks from the rear wash if its an Avant.

That reminds me my rear washer was almost non existant the other day

This happened to my car few years back, got it done under warranty, I'm sure it was the boot lock mechanism I will update as I'm dropping my car in for new oil breather pipes on Monday

Forgot to mention my car had no alarm issues
