SEN don't like V8 noise!

Post by RS4pete » Tue Nov 20, 2012 8:04 pm

After an eventful trip to the Bedford autodrome SEN circuit i though things couldn't get any worse. Apparently they can. 10 laps in and despite best efforts the 4 pinged the noise monitors. Cant remember the drive by limit but static it churned out 89 Dbs with the valves shut (100cells and non res milltek). To add further to the pain Id promised my best man and usher a blast (both had taken a day off) .... the moment the marshal started unpeeling the nosie test sticker from the windscreen was a particular low!

Anyway ...a call to Enterprise rent a car sorted us a BRAND NEW Focus Eco-diesel thingy and we returned in time for the afternoon session! Needless to say it had quite a torrid running in session.

Dont think i ever got the type pressures sorted in the 4 but TBH i was a tad disappointed, a bit understeery and heavy but the only estate there and scalped a few M3's so all was not lossed!

Fantastic pics. Really really good to see these cars on track, being driven how their suppose to be.

Again shame about the noise limit.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

To be honest it was really my own doing. First couple of laps I though I'd treat the spectators to some opened valve drive-bys. Got called in and told that it was just below the limit by 0.1 Db. Shut them up and thought I'd be well below ... A marshal did show a noise warning afterwards but I was in a group of 4 cars so thought it was for one of them instead. Anyway it wasn't and out came the black flag :(

Apparently it sounded awesome though and could be heard around the whole track!!

The hired Eco-mobile was a real laugh and had great fun (and some very funny looks!) setting lap times with the slowest buying here beer :)

Cant say i'll be rushing back to the Autodrome though . The multi track setup using cones to block the other routes detracts from the feel of the circuit and the first couple of laps were very difficult because of that.

I'd love a run round Silverstone as it'd be great around the GP circuit, but the cost of their open pit lane days makes it prohibitive.

Happy to get some good photos as all things taken into account my little 205 is far more fun and easier to push to its limits without worry of pranging.

Really worth getting to silverstone esp the arena circuit.
I'd go for one of the early / late seasons as with the '4 you're not going to be too concerned if it's wet.

That looks lower (and wider) than stock - or even SS+

What's the setup?

Yup, good spotting :) .. It's on KW v3's, I seem to remember about a 15mm drop on the rear and 45mm on the front .. I REALLY hated the massive gap under the front arch ... Very 205 esque!

Also has 10mm spacers on the rear. I have some 12mm H&R lying around that I considered getting machined down to 4-5mm for the front to finish it off. Not sure wether to sell them and buy pukka spacers though ... I did try 12's on the rear and 10's on the front but they rubbed on the front arch liner screw heads :(

Thanks for the comments .. Was very happy with the photos :)

to be honest, that photo is worth it. Hopefully it was high quality and you have the original. Make it into a poster and put it up in the garage.

re: the rental car, I near choked on my tea reading that. Hilarious.
