Are there different types of Sat Navs in the B7 RS4?

Why do people change them? Presume the maps etc can be updated & all UK cars have full European maps?

Nav was standard but Nav+ (RNS-E, with the screen) was optional/

The maps are DVD based, so can be updated with the latest DVD, and the UK and Europe maps come on seperate discs, but bundled together.

Picked up the 2012 maps off eBay for £10, ok it's a copy but it works a treat.

Not so. Concert radio / CD was standard on saloon and Avant (no nav function), RNSe nav was optional, but if was offered as a package at only around £500 so most cars were ordered with it. The ragtop is the only one that got RNSe nav as standard.

Some people, including me, have changed the RNSe unit to the later spec unit though (as fitted to last generation A3s) because the screen is way way better (more detailed and higher resolution), it's quicker to operate, takes SD cards up to 32gb and can run the proper AMI for full iPod integration + it looks identical to OE until you switch it on.

And as others have said, putting a newer DVD into an OE head unit will give you updated maps and a software update, which gives more functions to the unit, but it won't make a difference to screen or music playing etc.

There's a lot of discussion on here about all of this if you do a search, cheers.

I know the Audi price is ridiculous, but you can usually find genuine DVDs on eBay for a fraction of the price. I've NEVER bought a genuine DVD from Audi, but always used genuine DVDs bought from elsewhere.

As a moderator on audiforum.us I've seen hundreds of people have to replace the DVD drive in their RNS-E after it burnt out from trying to read copied discs. It's your call though...

Thanks for the heads up, I didn't know this.

Will keep an eye out for an Audi disk on eBay.
