So a while ago I got myself 2 x 4gb standard sd cards, transferred some music on to one of them and of I went. problem is only some of the tracks play.

In the photo below for example, High speed is the first strack (purely by chance ! ) and then the next track that plays is Ruby Tuesday so it misses the other 2. Any ideas ??

What bit rate are all the files? Are the ones that play the same as the ones that don't?

Hi thanks for the reply, I have checked and they are all 128 kbps.

Have you made sure that they're all MP3 format? IIRC MP4s will show on the list but won't play.

Other possible probs with files not playing correctly are hidden files on the card, or files that have been deleted from the card but still leaving data traces, here they can show in the display. Best way to cure the latter is to make sure you empty the recycle bin on the computer / mac with the card still connected to the computer.

Ok so I've checked the files and all mp3, I've checked for any hidden files or anything and the sd card only has the mp3 files and nothing else.... They play on my computer no probs..............

Have you tried putting them into albums or files instead of all single tracks?

Hmmm you've done the obvious things, I'm a bit stumped.

If it were me I'd re-format the card in the computer, put the files back on again (in 'album' folders as batfinnk suggests *) and also try a reset of the RNSe (press and hold radio and setup together for about 10 seconds until the screen goes blank)

* i.e. create folders on your computer with an album name, and move the files into it - you can also create folders with the name of artists and move the album folders into them, then copy the folders and their contents onto the card - you can then search through artists and albums on the RNSe

I'm not sure, but I think I remember a problem with some MP3 tags containing some special characters, like accentuated or ' " @ like... worth to check ;)
another try: is it CBR or VBR ? (not sure VBR is supported)

The RNS-E will read all data rates up to 320kbps, and VBR as well.

It won't play files with ID3 tags newer than version 1, and (very) old RNS-E SW versions used to have a problem with non-alphanumeric characters in the filename or the ID3 tag.

The pathname (filename plus folder name) needs to be less than 64 characters long.

Also, there were users that had trouble after using a Mac to copy files on the SD card. Did you use a Mac or PC?

That's because the hidden files/folders that get copied from the Mac confuse the RNS-E.

Thanks for all the replies, I'll try and answer all the questions. Using a Windows PC not a MAC. There are only alpha/numeric characters.

I have got some more info though. I started thinking about where the music came from and 90% of it was CD's that were scanned into iTunes. I went back to my old ipod source files that used to feed iTunes and Coldplay High Speed shows as an MP3 and I know you've got soul shows as an mp4a file.

After conversion they all show as standard mp3 files but perhaps they are not actually, and have retained their MP4 status, hence the comment from DALO "MP4s will show on the list but won't play"

So here is the next question ! Is there any way I can convert my old iTunes files which are a mix of mp3, mp4a and m4p files to be just normal mp3 files ?

There are lots of free converters on't web that'll be more than up to the job - I have a feeling that iTunes can do it too, but I may be wrong

Ok thanks everyone got to the bottom of this now, just used an online converter to re-do the I know you've got soul file to MP3 and copied that to a blank new sd card and it plays fine. So it seems my iTunes conversion has not worked on some of the files even though it's changed their extension.

So anyone recommend a good converter where I can do 900+ files and either get it free or at a cheap price and it won't infect my laptop ??!!
