 Get some mileage on the engine first, you wont believe how much quicker a loosened engine is,they reckon 20k plus.
I've 82000 and its very quick,i've driven 3 others all with less than 15k on and i couldn't believe the difference, the only snag is
the only things that want to play are corsas and clios!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I posted this on rs6.com forum but wanted to paste it here as well in case someone missed it....

Hey guys,

This is a picture I took of the intake installed in my car and I wanted to make thing clear. The light that came on was Emissions light and not engine light. The reason for it to come on was more air forced into the motor (and thats exactly what this intake supposed to do). The mixture was showing lean and that triggered the emissions light.

Other thing is my car only has 2000km and I have not pushed it to its full potential, so it is difficult for me to see the difference when I am still kind of getting used to the car.

So this would confirm a new ecu map if you have the induction kit ....

Thanks for the feedback Juan and I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the software. Let Theo know when you want us to 'wake up' the RS. If you end up getting the Gruppe-M intake, bring the car back to Theo and let them tweak the settings to make sure you're getting the most out of it.

Well Im committed to getting mine installed next tuesday. I am having a remap & a Milltek at the same time so I wont be able to tell how much performance gains will be down to just the Gruupe M...as mentioned before though I am not expecting big performance gains, I am hoping for a nicer throatier sound though. Will report all being well next week when all is done...must say the Gruppe M does look nice though!

APS are doing all the work, Ed recommended a remap anway to prevent the lean running issues. It makes sense to get it done when adding the Gruppe intake anyway, Im sure it will run better tweaked to allow for the changes the Gruppe will add

I got mine fitted on Thursday last week and have since done at least 650 miles on a mixture of roads. This is just my opinion, so please no handbags gents.

First things first, I got it fitted through APS and am delighted that I didn’t bother trying to have a go myself. Whilst its not rocket science, there is quite a lot of fiddling, especially when taking the old air box out. Also, whilst there are printed directions and photos taking you through step by step…the translation from Japanese to English is not good and it was not easy to understand the text below each photo. Also, the photos are quite small…you think GruppeM would have sent a cd/dvd with the kit with photos etc so you can zoom in. Despite the minor gripes, the fitting took about an hour. I would also add that the kit comes with oil for the filter, which we didn’t use for the reasons people were discussing earlier in the thread.

In terms of the quality of the product, I think most people would be impressed. Each component has been well though out from colour coding of the parts to the quality and the thickness of the carbon weave. I know…not the most important thing but goes some of the way to justifying the cost. As for the look of the kit once in place, there are plenty of photos flying round and mine looks no different. That said…I think it look the mutts nuts once in place!

Performance wise, I can only speak for myself but I have seen an improvement in both pickup and torque, especially lower down the rev range. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a huge change but definitely noticeable. I would add that my RS4 has already been mapped and I have been advised that this has helped to get the most out of the GruppeM kit. The other upside of this is that the map can be tailored to factor in the extra air getting to the engine and the resulting lean running which some people have reported. The guys at APS did tweak my map to give a little more fuel above 5,000 rpm but fundamentally the ECU should make adjustments to compensate.

The only other thing to mention is the noise. This is where the kit really makes itself noticed. It’s a bit Jekyll and Hyde in the way it works i.e. limited induction noise below say 4,500-5,000 rpm and then above that all hell breaks loose, especially in sport mode. The car is still very useable and you can drive it in a way so that a passenger wouldn’t know you had made any changes if you want. All in, I would say it’s loud, especially at full throttle!! I have a valved resonated Milltek fitted and I wouldn’t want it any louder for fear of drowning that out.

In summary I’m very pleased with the purchase. It isn’t a cheap bit of kit but for me if you weigh up the all of the elements: looks, quality of build, performance and noise I’d say it was worth it.

I look forward to reading other reports.
John
