I didn't think it was as simple as just slapping a turbo/supercharger on it. Don't internal things like compression ratios have to be altered/ mods to the heads etc?
Too much is bad.

Folks,

When Norschleife said months ago that it would be a 4.2NA motor, I figured it so. He is always right on the money.

Question: Why not the 500HP 3.0TT featured in the Seat Cupra Exotic?

Richard
Its nice of you to say so, but I'm frequently not correct on all the details, which have a habit of changing once the bean counters start sharpening their pencils.
I do expect the new RS4 to have slightly better brakes, to handle better out of the box and to be pleasant to drive.
However, I'm not optimistic about the DSG in its current form, if they can combine DSG with EGear then it will feel like a manual with a race style paddle shifter, at present it felt to me to be too much like an automatic.
I do not think that the present A4 platform is built to the same quality standards as the previous, B5, platform. After spending 2 days on the track in the new S4 I was not happy with the dumbed down instruments, the cheaper Recaro sports seats, the not so nice to touch plastic on the interior, the poor panel and trim alignment, to say nothing of the absence of sporting character, chocolate clutch and flambe brakes.
The good news is that with a Supercharger available from the tuners, there will be lots of power on tap and sdupercharger power is much less laggy than turbo power.
These days I look to Lamborghini for sport and Audi for comfort with sporting character. I have a nasty feeling that they will cock up the LMQ, trying to chase the hairdresser and performance driver markets with the same car.

According to my information Audi doesn't use the S4 any longer in their driver's training. They use the TT.

Anyone thinking of supercharged the 4.2 V8 engine or adding turbos on it. Would it fly then ?
Is it possible to check with MTM/Sportec for it ?

and again:

there will be NO TURBOS.

whatever your dealer says. whatever you want to have.

NO TURBOS

or do you think the chief engine technician of audi is telling lies?

read this:

NO TURBOS.

right then, only one thing for it.
Somebody kidnap him, brainwash him that it MUST have turbo's, and return him before someone misses him.

some more information i just got 30 minutes ago:

we still have the 4,2 WITHOUT turbos. (without means that the engine does not have turbos) 450 hp is the latest version with up 9000 rpm. the pistons and other engine parts are so light, that there is no chance of even putting a compressor or turbos on it. sad news for all tuners....

cheers

450HP at 9000 revs sounds perfect to me even if it´s naturaly aspirated.
That would be similar results to the M3, I mean HP/liter. Well done Audi!
Maybe if they try a little bit more, they could achive the results of 360 Modena / GT3 / S2000
Now an agresive body, light weight, beter brakes and I´m on the list for the next RS4!

Interesting info. I wonder what the torque will be like though?

Seems like Audi would be doing pretty well to get this sort of power out of a normally aspirated V8. Here are some comparisons and most of the others arent v8s. The numbers show bhp per Litre.

M3 - 105.7
M3 CSL - 110.9
S2000 - 118.7
360 Stradale - 117.1
GT3RS - 104.2
RS4 (as predicted) - 107.1
E39 M5 - 81

Guys
I was down in Geneva for the show and meetings.

Just to poke a stick in the Termite nest, I can tell you that the V10 Gallardo engine fits in the S4.

That Frowein promoises the Le Mans Quattro will be hard edged and a Porsche chaser (don't hold him to it, I can smell hairdresser).

There will be a Gallardo race series in 2006.

The Murcielago R is due to return to the race track in late Spring.

Expect a new RS4 to have the new style radiator grill.

The A6 is good in the metal and the new driving position works.

Lamborghini has a problem, all the Gallardo customers want their car to be built in Neckarsulm.

VAG has agreed to build 10,000 cars per year on the Maserati Quattroporte platform.

What - no turbos and that awful new front end. Yuk. Won't feel too bad about not being able to afford one then!
