For me one of the most important things was to not change the look of the car too much, to be as discrete as possible. The 'standard' DTM carbon one is very subtle and would be absolutely perfect if only it was a little wider and took in the full width of the bumper, and that's the look I would be aiming for with this, nothing too fancy or elaborate. The mock up shown is not attractive and looks obviously like an 'add-on' which is not a look I would want. All IMHO!

It's easy to criticise but it's constructive criticism we're looking for.

Re: Carbon Front Splitter/Spoiler wanted
A massive selling point for me is the ease of installation and not having to drill the bumper to fit it. I am thinking of selling my DTM splitter and going for one of these instead. The angled corners are growing on me and as others have said, once it is darker it will look much better.
In that last picture though the splitter looks to be very thick as if it was made of mdf (and maybe this protype is, I don't know). It looks like you will lose a lot of ground clearance with it being that thick. Will the final version be that thick? Can it be any thinner? Carbon is quite strong and light so I'd have thuoght it could be made quite a bit thinner.

Re: Carbon Front Splitter/Spoiler wanted
Caldy, do you have any more photos? In particular I'd like a shot of the oil cooler part but from a lower angle than the front on shot you have as you can't really see how it looks fitted to the actual bumper in that photo.
Re: Carbon Front Splitter/Spoiler wanted
It's the former made in MDF from which they make the mould. The part will be carbon fibre thin, dunno about a plastic part. Argon are normally closed on Monday but I'll see if I can get another photo or 3.

Re: Carbon Front Splitter/Spoiler wanted
Personally I'd be more than happy with a splitter that looks like the DTM one but continues to follow the lines of the B7 bumper instead of it stopping short of the outside edges of it.
The issue I have with the Argon one at the moment is the spikey edges and the depth / height of it. Like Silas I have a steep drive way and I already have to take it super easy when coming home, so the current height of the sptitter as it looks at the moment will give me even more clearance issues.
Do we have any measurement of the height dimension as noted in the photo?

Mate, that's useful, thanks - got a rough price yet? Thing is, if I'm going to ground this occasionally, I don't want a huge bill each time. I just bought an Ezlip for my wife's car and it's made of rubber so she won't wreck it on her lowered MX-5.

Re: Carbon Front Splitter/Spoiler wanted
Caldy - I applaud your efforts in trying to get this made but I think you're going to end up getting a bit frustrated. This looks a bit like "design by committee" and, therefore, is going to drive you up the wall
IME it really just needs one person to drive it forward and foot the initial bill and then let other people buy them if they like it enough. That doesn't mean, of course, that you don't take the ideas and suggestions of others into account - but that you basically aim to make something that *you* want (and, in all likelihood others will too).
One way of doing this would be to say to Argon that you would effectively act as guarantor for any upfront design/tooling costs but that you want a royalty on any that they sell to other people - after all, you took the risk in funding the tooling costs so you should have some reward if they sell loads of them. Alternatively, if *they* take a risk by funding the tooling, they should get the reward.
Just my 2p, take it or leave it

Re: Carbon Front Splitter/Spoiler wanted
Having seen the MDF version last week I can vouch that the pictures as a little deceptive and that the splitter does look deeper due to the colour than it actually will be. It won't look as thick either because that is the solid mould and the finished will be about 5mm thick. The fixing points are spot on as is the shape, a little different but discreet.
My only constructive crticism is that more photos would show the shape off better and help you lot make your mind up but it is far better looking than the DTM splitter and the Cupra one (I would think it will end up being the same depth as the Cupra splitter for reference).
As for one person footing the R&D and tooling costs, great in theory but that is an expensive proposition for one person and / or for Argon and the realitively low numbers being asked (10?) gives you a great deal. If this was bespoke for one person I would suggest it would be 3-4 times the cost.

Sure, but its very unlikely that democracy will deliver a good design if 10 people are equally vested (and therefore want/get equal say).

Re: Carbon Front Splitter/Spoiler wanted
I'm only involved to such an extent because a) I'm local and b) I wanted to buy a spoiler that actually fitted properly. Had I not had such access to Argon, I would happily have trusted them to come up with a design and then ordered one as normal.
This way, we can hopefully receive a custom design at an advantageous price. Let Argon decide upon the design, post a price and we can all make our own minds up. They know what they're doing, witness the quality of their work for Formula 1 teams and the like.
I suggest we wait for the 'black' pictures and then we can comment with the benefit of a better idea of what the finished article would look like.

Re: Carbon Front Splitter/Spoiler wanted
Great work Caldy trying to get this sorted
This is something i have wanted to do for a long time, and after seeing the dtm ones was always tempted and mentioned before that just the side sections would always
niggle me.
I 100% still want a carbon splitter and i do really like this but can also see both sides of the discussion.
I think whats been shown up to date defo has a more dtm race car feel and i think i could get away withit when air'd out but fully understand Iain's point that if its
to extreme it may put people off.
If it was just like the dtm a4 one and flowed round the sides perfect alot would want one.As it is i think it may look a little overkill on a standrd height car and protude to much.
I have this makes sense and full credit for looking into this. But like i say i am very very intersted so keep me informed or get in touch if you ever want to throw some idea's about
