wrekka, I was at 400ps with a non-res valved cat-back but port / polish took this up to 412ps at 86k miles so near enough for me.

Me (i have basic mechanical knowledge) and my friend (BMW tech) are going to have a go at cleaning mine, can some one tell me all the parts i need to do it? would petrol be good for cleaning? what is used for porting and polishing and does it make much of a difference to just cleaning, sorry for sounding a <beep> but what gets ported and polished is it the inlet manifold? then its going to mrc for gutting pre cats and remap

Please don't take this wrong way but the questions you're asking suggest that it would be prudent to let mrc do the clean. You can trash the engine if you do it badly and a piece of carbon gets caught in the cylinder.

I can pm you the instructions for removing the manifold if any help.
Petrol would work but there are better products out there (granted mostly petroleum based) that would help.
Mostly is hard elbow grease multiplied by 8.

In terms of parts all you need iirc are two new manifold gaskets. A new one vac valve is recommended but not essential.

I know what your saying, i do work on cars for a living for a long time but i'm not a mechanic, but my mate is a superb mechanic, hes been with BMW since he left school and is regarded as a top tech, hes done loads of carbon cleans on BMW's, i'm just getting as much information as i can so i know and understand exactly whats being done when its being done. i am very fussy and quite meticulous and have a good eye for detail so it will be done with great care and attention, if you could pm with any information it would be most grateful

Don't mean to offend - Internet is full of people who either are keyboard warriors or take offense at a drop of a hat. Have to say this place seems to be relatively safe :)

Ive topped my washer fluid up a few times,so see myself as mechanical.
So a brillo pad and some washing up liquid should do the job :bigblink:
Drive low,park lower
