RS4 v's RS5
Just read the article, so the EVO guys don't like it partially because there is no tail out action because it is 4WD but it beats everything bar probably the M3 Competition round the track.
I like the EVO guys but they do lose their sense of everyday driving and that you can't hang the tail out on the public highways.

Car & Driver recently did a comparo test: RS5, M3, CTS-V coupe
RS5 did 12.5/112 vs 12.4/114 for the DCT M3
0-60 4.0 vs 3.9, not bad for +400 lbs
it finsihed 3rd but lost a lot of points for 'fun to drive', rebates and price, over 1/2 the difference
their big gripe is the nose heavy nature of its handling

the cars were scale weighed to the nearest 10 lbs (euro cars)adsgreen wrote:+400? Base M3 brochure lists it at 3704 lb's and thats before you DCT. I've seen guess-timates at +45lb so difference likely to be near 50lb.
4000 vs 3600 (no driver)
the CTS 4260
I've seen M3 coupes as light as 3550
wt dist
RS5 56.3/43.7
M3 50.8/49.2
CTS 52.8/47.2
prertty sure the BMW is EC unladen, ie, base car, no options, 75 kg, driver and some load
old, but still the standard....

Unladen, EU 2)
2. The figures shown include a 90% tank filling, 68 kg driver weight and 7 kg luggage. Unladen weight applies to vehicles in standard trim.
directly from BMW 2007 M3
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicles/m ... asheet.pdf
note 1 , page 1
DCT adds 20 kg
DCT 1675 - 75 (driver/load) = 1600 kg ~ 3520 lbs plus options...3600 is a realistic number...
The m3 weight seems pretty bang on - from the 2010 m3 brochure it's down as "Unladen (EU) 1655 (1675) ".
The RS5 brochure has it down as unladen at 1725
If we add in the 20kg for DCT it's only 50kg difference.
So unless the Audi was spec'd with the extra bag of cement in the boot I don't know how they got another 150kg ish.
Also I have to raise an eyebrow at their figures - I mean, with DCt there's only so much a driver can do to launch the car and yet they have comprehensively smashed the claimed manufacturer figures of 4.6 seconds with 3.9. Thats a fair bit of a margin of error. If the M3 was really hitting 60 in under 4 seconds then I think BMW might have made a bit of a deal about it.

these are scale weights....
the RS5 book weight is not the same standard as the BMW
the 4000 and 3600 are from SCALES, not books
those are the numbers
the weights are accurate, not subject to debate
the times are professionally timed
good track, favorable weather, etc.???
Motor Trend scale weighed their test cars (different cars)
RS5 3975
M3 3544
CTS 4254
all very similar to the C&D numbers
not sure what to say
