So that stats on a standard TTRS coupe is a car at 1450 kg kerbwieght with 335bhp (231bhp p/t) and 330 ftlbs of torque vs. a 1710 kg car with 414bhp (242 bhp p/t) and 313 ftlbs of torque and I reckon I'm probably carrying 30 - 50 kgs more so evens the bhp per tonne and the TT-RS has more torque.

I wonder however what it sounded like from outside because I couldn't hear the 5 pot at all.

I think the debate on a tt-rs vs a rs4 is pointless. Totally different cars for different types of drivers. I think the tt is a nice car targeted towards women and marketing types. All fun but don't see myself sliding in one, especially at the money they sell for.

I'm believe the tt-rs optional extra hair straightener charger kit are going like hot cakes. Everone to there own.

But you can't ignore the grunt it has, particularly in a straight line. Like said I wouldn't buy one because it doesn't suit my family needs and I love the RS4's V8 but nonetheless it is am impressive piece of kit for a 5 cylinder motor. The RS3 if it exists will be a stonking car and if I can't get hold of a C6 RS6 saloon in a couple of years that I would like, the RS3 may be a credible alternative.

Fair enough but just buy a focus st ot a golf Gti or an s3 and spend 5k and you'll also have something that can shift in a straight line. I think the rs3 will be a cool fast car which I would consider. I just can't get away with how the tt was marketed and the demographic it was sold to when it was launched. Nice car no doubt but not my cup of tea.

An RS3 may be of interest to me but they would have to improve the looks as at the moment i favour golfs over a3,cant argue the ttrs sounds quick but too expensive i dont think we will see many, hope i can hold my own against a flying hairdresser with my extra 50-60 mrc power lol

fair comment regarding the grunt, its proven itself to be a fast car. you certainly can't ignore the price of the TT-RS!!

Well, I have had a year of epic fails trying to get an RS4.
I just can't get to see them, so I am thinking about just buying one from the audi network.
I am looking for an avant. There is one at Shrewsbury audi 16k miles in silver for £33850 and one in Aberdeen for £34995 with 25k miles.
Am I mad?
I am going to try to get figures sorted this week and take it from there.
I am slightly apprehensive about posting because the last time I did the deal fell through.

I don't want to get an RS3. It has haldex, my MkV R32 had haldex and I didn't like it.
The TTRS was just too small. I was also get the urge to style hair and I was starting to show far to much interest in hair straighteners. I have no hair so it just wouldn't work out :)

This is one of the best threads i've ever read on the internet. It's got some incisive technical details spattered with some of the funniest comments i've read in a while. This is what the internet was made for and I salute the contributors for making an otherwise dreary day in the office into something where I have actually laughed out loud so hard that I have drawn attention to myself.

I got a one way flight from Aberdeen to Manchester, a train over to Wakefield, stuck in two tanks of fuel coming up the road and still saved over £2k between similar specced cars.

Must be these big in oil types up here keeping the prices high!
