I'll second that, I'm on the Sessantas at the moment and you definitely lose some precision in the steering, it makes it feel wooly and somehow not properly "connected" in comparison with the Michelins & Goodyears.

But if you're on a budget I reckon they're an acceptable tyre - much better than the Pirellis :piss:

I was driving back from the yard having just fitted the wheels (been referbed and tyres fitted). Got to a corner in the lane, felt like the wheel was gonna fall off and nearly ended up in a ditch. Still the same 500 miles later :(

sorry to hear about the volvo :bash:

I was wondering if the tyre beads had maybe not seated properly on the rim. OK a long shot, but may of been on enough to hold the air, but not seated properly between rim and 'bump' in perimeter of rim inside.... you know when you're at the tyre fitters and the loud 'BANG!' as tyre bead seats itself.

Tyres being duff must be remote but as anything still possible when you think how many they manufacture.
All possible. I had just bought new tyres but had the old ones in the back seat so couldn't throw it about too much so was gonna drop off tyres and go for a rag. Unfortunately 2 miles from home the Volvo put a stop to my test intentions.

cool - update as well - I spoke to a couple of techys at Goodyear and went through the symptoms etc, I also sent them the video which they watched. they confirmed that they looked exactly how they should, they went off on some technical spill about why that was but in essence the way these tyres are made that makes them a lot softer on the walls and shoulders than the previous version of Eagle F1s.
they said for people who do a lot of hard cornering etc they are prob not the best but went on to tell me all the great things about them. looks like I will be bearing with them, wet grip should be good at least with winter on its way :)

Thanks for the info but explains why the back end suffers :( Back to the accident, car is written off and they've offered me £17.3k. I can buy the car back for £6.4k.

The 'Audi Approved' repair centre refused to do any work after I asked them to undertake it, although they were more than happy to deal with insurance company. They also said that he would not repair it if it was his as not cost effective. I'll bet he'd buy the car off the insurance company as is for £6k! I talked to the bodyshop across from my business unit and he said he'll look at it and more than happy to work with me on repairs. Needless to say if I'm broken down twenty yards from the approved bodyshop I'd now have it towed anywhere than have them look at it!

Looks like the DRC could be gone as well as the exhaust. The boot floor will have to be chopped out and replaced, will be asking Kev (Sync24) about his custom exhaust and then I need to decide between changing to coilovers or replacing DRC? I'll have to see about these guys painting but may have the whole thing done?

Mark.

Looking at the pics I'd take the insurance money, and put some extra in to get a new car, wouldn't bother messing with it IMO

But she's not just a car, she's a member of the family. I'll get her sorted :)

I see your point, but that may be the problem, I would think carefully about getting it fixed if you do what's it going to be worth? if your going to keep it for a long time then maybe it would be worth doing, I'd be tempted to have a look to see what's out there for sale at the mo

Sorry to read that your Pride and Joy has now been written off, I'm in agreement with Silas and wouldn't want mine repaired if it was to fall the same fate. They're never the same again after a decent shunt.

The insurance valuation seems a bit low, so try and negotiate them up further. Provide adverts to similar and better examples from Dealers, Autotrader & Pistonheads etc.

That's exactly what my insurance guy had me do but thanks Sam as I may not have had that info. I also agree that it's possible she won't fully recover after repair but, hopefully the main structure looks like it's only slightly out so shouldn't need more than a tweek on the jig. I have to give her a chance so I'll pull her to bits and see what exactly is going on. We are talking less than 1mm on rear door gaps. What does worry me is having rammed the exhaust system that it eventually attaches to the heads....... Then I have to remove the engine :( If that's the case then I'll be on a long project. 2 door conversation with b8 engine, box and loom (with mmi). I know, I'm dreaming lol but anything can be done.

Back to reality, let's see what the diagnosis is once we get her open.

Silas, my plan is to keep her always. I know I'm being silly and not sensible but if I can get her back, I intend to :)
