Good point made, but are we talking of modified or std cars here?
Any modified forced induction car will get far better results than n/a - does anyone have results for the most modded RS4 against a TTRS?
The MTM supercharged RS4 version looks pretty quick to, different kettle of fish but what figures does that produce?
Let battle commence

True but it doesn't have four comfortable seats, aboot big enough to get most of what you buy at B&Q in and a brilliant V8 up front.
The cars are suited for differing market sectors with a few drivers who fit in both categories.
If you watch the Autocar vid Steve Sutcliffe did when he tested the TT-RS vs. R8 V10 the TT-RS could keep up to a point, but it was working very very hard to so so to the point of being uncomfortable to do so whilst the R8 wasn't really trying.

I love the RS4 because it is not turbocharged. Give me NA any day.
Turbo cars leave me cold (except the throttle response and delivery of the Nissan GTR).
I've nothing against a TTRS except for £50k you can buy a pre loved 911 or GTR. I wouldn't even consider a TTRS personally.

The TT/RS is an awesome bit of kit, but £50k for a
TT is what gets in the way for a lot of people. A Cayman S will be more than £50k, and Z4 3.5is will also be heading that way.
At 25k, I'd have one as a run about

I'm very surprised, most people find N/A cars feel flat after the rush of a turbo'd motor. I do prefer the look of the B7 RS4 over the TTRS but the TT in mild tune is a weapon, the B7 struggles with a mapped hot hatch and that puts me off. It would be nice to see the RS6 C5's motor dropped into the B7, that would be a true beast in the spirit of the B5 RS4.

I know what you mean by rush of a turbo'd motor. I was thinking about on the road (or track) total driving experience. No lag, good throttle response, lots of revs. Maybe I look at different things from my car. Straight line performance is lower down my priority.
However saying that, you mention "the B7 struggles with a mapped hot hatch". Are you crazy! That's rubbish.

In a straight line I can see his point against mapped hot hatches and have a go boy racers hell bent on beating you. But a lot of it is down to how you use the power of the car; in the right power band not much will get past or away and most will get left.
The RS4 has taken some adaptation of my driving to get the best out of the engine although I was aided having come from the S4 V8. Completely different driving proposition to my S3 in trems of extracting the available power..

How many people are going to spend £50k on a new car and then lose all warranty by modding it????? after 3 years then yes as it will only be worth 25k and a great buy probably.
For that money i would be straight in a GTR.NO CONTEST

Well, I had been thinking about a Nissan GT-R. Then the Audi dealer e-mailed me asking if I was interested in an RS4. It is Phantom black metallic, December 2006 18,000, bucket seats sat nav etc. Very well specced. In immaculate condition. I know the car, it was my friends car and very well looked after.
It was great to drive, and sounds awesome, but why did it feel slower than my hatchback 2008 impreza STI with PPP. It must be the delivery, I would be reaching for a new gear in the subaru and the RS4 would be just about to get on song.
The only down side is they want £35K for it. My friend paid exactly that for it 18 months ago.
I am also waiting on the trade-in value for my subaru.
If it is a good deal I will get it. If not I will wait and get a GT-R next March.
Any advice guys? Is the price good? It probably depends more on what I get offered for my trade-in.
Cheers
Chris

You're used to the kick of mid range torque that you get from a turbo car.
You don't get that from an RS4 you just get an unrelenting surge which picks up momentum above 5500rpm. Use all 8250rpm and it still won't feel as quick, but the times will show that it is.
As you say, it's all about the delivery.

The RS4 is a very deceptive car in both its performance and its handling,it makes swift no fuss progress that leaves you forgeting how quick your going, the TTRS is for hairdressers and puffs i dont care how quick you could get one to go,the admiring glances wouldnt be for the car it would be to see how fit the totty is driving it !

You sound like an informed kind of chap but just fyi....

Over 400Nm of torque all the way from 2500 - 7500 rpm
Having come from a long line of modified turbo cars to the RS4, not sure which way BOOST (!?) is going, but it's not always instant, it certainly runs out of puff at 7000 rpm and I'm very glad I left it behind

So I had my first proper run in with an '09 plate TT-RS today and given my lardy RS4 Avant was plus kids and seats and lardy driver with a full 65 litre tank of petrol it managed with driver to pull 5 car lengths on me all the way up to 8000rpm in 4th.
Are RS4's expected to keep up or push past them? The gap was closing at the end but didn't want to get silly and someone phoned my mid drive so backed off to take the call! Typical!
