Yes, very reminiscent of the Cayman S launch.

Gareth,

I am sorry if you feel my credibility is an issue, and sorry to have to disagree with you and your 2 Audi DPs and your Finance bod. I assume you are talking about Sytner, who yes do have a big view into Audi UK, but only what is chosen for them to see.

I am simply trying to assure existing and potential RS4 owners that the B7 will have limited production build slots, where as you are trying to muddy the picture. I am not a DP or a finance person, but I can assure you the factory is currently over subscribed with builds this year. Your comments about the car being a general availability vehicle are not particularly accurate.

The factory will soon start to tool up for the Avants then production on the Saloon will cease until October.

You are correct, a few extra build slots will be granted, but very very few.

Gareth, you seem to spend a lot of time calling Audi dealers, do you have a B7 on order?

MattC - I have to agree with some of the other posts on here - can you please advise of the source of your information, or at least allude to the authenticity or authority.

You are very precise in your assertions and we would all be a lot happier if we know that what you say is fact and not your own speculation or opinion. Is that too much to ask??

I know what you mean. Try selling a 997 for a decent price against the hundreds of others that are on the market. It's difficult and contrary to what dealers tell you when you purchase one.
911's are funny. They will have c£7k of extras on and if you dump it after 6 months, the dealer will sell it at 'list' (without the extras) and drop you £6k on the spread, so a car with no depreciation has dropped £13k in 6 months.

PS I've got no problem with dealer margins - try selling anything over £30k privately.

Thanks for the reply Matthew

Just to come back to you on the points you raised/asked me..

1. The Audi DP's were not Sytner Group guys.
2. "Your comments about the car being a general availability vehicle are not particularly accurate" - Sorry have to disagree again. If the RS4 is such a "hot" property and yet it is freely available - and that's the feedback here at RS246/tyresmoke/PH etc - how come there are so many physical cars around ?
3. I don't spend "a lot of time calling Audi dealers" as you put it. I called a few Audi franchise dealers Saturday morning and over the 30/40 mins that took I located physical, available cars very easily. Aside from that I have course to speak Audi dealers (as well other prestige brands) on a regular basis as of my business's deals in the procurement of cars for clients day in, day out.
4. "do you have a B7 on order?" - No I do not. I do not consider it a well measured purchase at this point in time....or are you questioning if I have the means/history of prior purchases to buy such a car...? You should maybe clarify your question there...

Gareth.

Just to add my ounce of flesh to this debate Ive owned Audis since 94 have bought various for myself or others from A8 to A4. I ordered a TT for Missus a year or so before they came out, one reason for buying was that they where only realeasing 1000 for the UK. Perhaps high residuals for a change! they actually sold and delivered over 3k that first delayed year (the addition of wings and stuff to keep them on the road). My dealer said they found that the TT was a great seller when a lot of others where not, so Audi UK gave them the cars they wanted. I now have B5 RS4 and have had it from new in Nov 2001 after a 2 year wait. The bulid for the UK was supposedly 300 Maximum yet they still managed over 420 odd someone will know the correct figure. Can't really complain about the residual on that though!

My point is that they will find more cars than they ever predict because they can sell them when times may not be as good as they appear to be - like now!

The B7 does seem to be a lot better than anticipated but mine's only done 23k however I might well be tempted by an Avant but I'll take my time this time.

Good to see a Salopian on here, I'll keep my eye open for a spanking B5 when I'm up next!
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

Guys,

I think I will admit defeat and retire from the debate, maybe you’re all right about Audi and I have just been brain washed by them. I hope you all enjoy your B7`s its a stunning car, one you wont regret purchasing.

Matt,

Does that mean you weren't able to get approval for publication of your data/source?

Just to add three dealers have offered me build slots for September. Even though all three told me earlier that the car was sold out until next year.
