Steady boys, Eric is yanking your chain
He is right about TDI engines though. Turbos and Intercoolers too

Re: The new engine will be...
I thought that a full aluminium body would do the trick with the weight. Just like the A8.

Re: The new engine will be...
a dozen of RS6 went up in flames during development.
Feelou
Can you quote a reputable source for this allegation. In fact can you quote ANY source?
The last time I looked a dozen in Australia was still 12 in anybody else's language!

Ah, these expat Swiss just cant' get it right down under! maybe the blood just flows into the head too much while hanging out upside down, right Robin? Long time no hear anyway, good to see you posting!
Re: The new engine will be...
I read about severe heat problems in the engine bays of the development RS6, various plastic bits melted. From memory it may have been on Audipassion (??)
Front mounted intercoolers would do ...... I wonder how many bits you could hang on the front of the engine bay?

Re: The new engine will be...
Big difference between cars burning up and parts melting during development in my opinion...
Re: The new engine will be...
1 Turbos good news
2 Lots of movement for improvement, I assume, as 420BHP would be detuned..
3 As long as they don't do to the styling that they did with the RS6 (an own goal in my opinion)
Flame suit at the ready.

Re: The new engine will be...
Humm, all of you seem to be arguing about the same point. The latest information that most audi sources are quoting is a normally aspirated engine, V8, 4.2, heavily tuned to 420hp. This is reasonable considering the space restrictions and the heat issues. Also cost is an issue. Audi will have a tough time selling RS4s at 70-80k US$ or at least 45-50k sterling. This car will cost 10-20% over an S4, and that has to cover assembly as well as many specialized body and suspension parts. We call all guess, but consider the RS4 normally aspirated. By the way, someone inquired about base price of an RS6 in america, 82700 US$, mine was $85400 including navigation, and carbon fibre trim plus shipping and prep.

Frankly I don't give a feck whats under the bonnet, I will only buy it if it looks better, handles better and is quicker than my current one - if it ain't I don't want it. Oh how I Love my B5

According to my opinion, it doesen´t matter that much if it´s naturaly aspirated or a twin turbo V8.
The most important thing is the weight of the car which gives the car a huge advantage when it´s light weight, like the CSL. If Quattro GmbH manages to do less than 1400kgs like John Roberts wrote, then it will be the ultimate machine.
For me it´s more important to get the new RS4 below 1400kgs than to have 4.2 V8 biturbo FSI engine with the ability to modify to 500 or more horsepower. I see that most of you concentrate to the engine question rather than the weight which JR mentioned. Anybody who tracks his car knows what I mean.
Also there is one more problem that your current B5 RS4 have/had. The crap brakes! I didn´t see anyone of you being interested in what brakes will they use for the new RS4.
