my brother has worked in local shipyards most of his life and suggested a special type of paste they use on threads that should stop any reaction between the 2 different metals. i,ll ask him again what it was called. i,m gonna go and check out jhm website in a bit.!

I'd be interested to know what it is.rocket1 wrote:my brother has worked in local shipyards most of his life and suggested a special type of paste they use on threads that should stop any reaction between the 2 different metals. i,ll ask him again what it was called. i,m gonna go and check out jhm website in a bit.!

Hi mate, toyneg wrote:has anyone been successful with Goodwill from Audi on this job? i am a real predicament on this, Audi quoted me £1520 - so took the car to a garage across the road from my work and they wanted over £1400! i could buy the parts myself and they would fit which would work out at £1186.00 with their £276 labour which seems excessive, plus they insist on replacing all the oil?!. undecided on the forge kit plus unfortunately too far away to take advantage of the £100 fitting.
Audi said i would prob get goodwill but unsure how much and plus i would need to factor in the cost if getting it to the garage which is 40 miles (they said not to drive it)
not really sure what to do with this....
These were Camberley prices

Hi All, good reading
Just thought I would add the Audi part to all this:
This was quoted by Audi to me on 8/1/14
This is for the oil cooler, pipes and ancillaries total replacement
A079117021T x1 £551.09 (oil cooler)
A8E0117316 x1 £115.09 (oil pipe long)
A8E0117315 x1 £78.19 (oil pipe short)
A4D0260778 x4 £18.85 (do not know)
AN91044502 x2 £48.18 (do not know)
AN90175205 x8 £3.95 (do not know
LSLX3 x1 £16.62 (do not know)
Total without vat £831.97
Labour x3 hours £331.50 not inc vat
Still undecided on my way forward yet, I think maybe strip down first and take it from there
I did not include the vat as some get 15 % discount and others 20 %

Re: Yet another oil cooler question (well a few actually)
So dropped mine in at Camberley this morning for a service - apparently the oil cooler has failed on mine too, oil leaking out and onto the undertray
Quoted £1358 to replace. Looking at my options now for an aftermarket one that won't do this again in a few more years.
(Oh and a snapped rear spring too, just to make sure the bill wasn't too light!)

I'm in pretty much the same predicament.toyneg wrote:has anyone been successful with Goodwill from Audi on this job? i am a real predicament on this, Audi quoted me £1520 - so took the car to a garage across the road from my work and they wanted over £1400! i could buy the parts myself and they would fit which would work out at £1186.00 with their £276 labour which seems excessive, plus they insist on replacing all the oil?!. undecided on the forge kit plus unfortunately too far away to take advantage of the £100 fitting.

Have been recommended not to drive it, but it's now out in Camberley (and I'm in London). Could order a forge kit, but Audi won't fit it, so would need to find somewhere who could do that and then get it to them.
The service manager has indicated that Audi may offer some goodwill on it if I choose to fit a new Audi cooler, so I'm waiting to hear back how much that would be. Would rather not pay to fit another part that I know is going to fail in another few years though

Re: Yet another oil cooler question (well a few actually)
crap isn't it - in the end I just decided to order the parts from Aberdeen Audi £843.66 and get the Garage across the road to fit it, I know it prob won't last forever but the current one did ok for 7 years and over 90k miles so not too bad. i did it this was for ease and as they had already taken the bumper off to look it also worked out the cheapest as well, otherwise i was going to have to pay for their time and then pay to transport the car somewhere else - Camberley Audi reckoned i would get about 20% goodwill but that is because mine is high mileage.GroundControl wrote:I'm in pretty much the same predicament.toyneg wrote:has anyone been successful with Goodwill from Audi on this job? i am a real predicament on this, Audi quoted me £1520 - so took the car to a garage across the road from my work and they wanted over £1400! i could buy the parts myself and they would fit which would work out at £1186.00 with their £276 labour which seems excessive, plus they insist on replacing all the oil?!. undecided on the forge kit plus unfortunately too far away to take advantage of the £100 fitting.

Re: Yet another oil cooler question (well a few actually)
Well they've come back with about 33% goodwill, which would make it cheaper (and easier) to just get it fitted and live with the fact that it's probably going to be need to be done again a few years down the track.
Seems crazy that Audi haven't come up with an updated part for this made out of something that's not going to corrode

Re: Yet another oil cooler question (well a few actually)
mines on 90k and i,ve no paperwork to say its been previously changed. theres no outstanding recalls on it but not sure if it would have been replaced anyway. i,ve decided to just go oem again and fit myself as looking at jhm lines then the possible import duty its coming out around £450 just for the lines. my car rarely sees bad weather and certainly won,t see any salt in winter so should last me 5 years at least lol.
