Front brakes
Re: Front brakes
Normally best done off. Some skimmmers will be able to skim them with the bells in place, others will fix the disc to a rig and skim.
Re: Front brakes
agreed - can't see how you can do floating rotors any other way.
Re: Front brakes
Are the bolts reusable or are they stretch type?
I've my old set in the garage at the moment and have access to a machine Shop (and machinists) at work to skim the lip off and bring them back to a nice flat finish.
With the cross drilled holes and potential for the cutting head to jump about as it passes over, Is it better to machine on a lathe or use a milling machine?

Re: Front brakes
if the x-drilling has been done properly then there should be a bevel around each hole so I don't think this should be a problem.
You're only taking off a really tiny amount.

Re: Front brakes
Wasn't there a couple of threads on here last year where people had got a mobile chap to do the skimming (with the disks still on vehicle). ???
I seem to remember very good feedback on his work and the fact he was prepared to travel.
(Whatever the logic about floating disks may state)

Re: Front brakes
yeah I remember that too... Must be bloody hard to do unless it can clamp the disc rather than the hub...
Re: Front brakes
New disc's fitted and all is well at moment, will be nice and steady braking nothing to hard on disc's just getting them nice and warm and will slowly build them up to hard braking to be honest i am not one of the last of the late breakers any way, I Think this will be the best way as they are solid disc's and the old pads, I am sure old pads will not affect the disc's, As my first skimming ended in tears i am going to get them skimmed again (when i find the right person) as they are almost still at the full thickness and then i will have a spare set of rs4 disc's, Cheers.
