I did not know any of that I have to say, however, just after fitting the unit was staying on even when I locked the car with the remote. Which I thought odd. I'm putting that down to a gremlin. It's working as described now though so thankyou. VAGOM worked a treat too. What a handy tool that is!

I'm going to run a 32GB card for my entire music library, and keep another SD card that I'll update with new stuff, top 40 lists, whatever else periodically. That way the library is always in the car if you forget the second card in the house.

Congrats on the upgrade completion. The screen removal seemed a bit of a bugger for a few people I'd read about online, while others had quick success.

They all seem to come with a copied disc for the record...every one I looked at did.

So what are you doing with your old RNSe (2005) unit now? I imagine there's a B6/7 A4 driver out there who would give you 300 pounds for it at least. They sell for about 650 dollars here (but that's a complete kit with antenna, faceplate in place, disc and removal keys).

I run two 32GB SDHC cards, plus an 8GB SDHC card specifically for Christmas music.

I've just ordered a 64GB SDXC card from Moby Memory to see it that will work...

I don't have THAT much music right now, at least not that I've converted to MP3, so just a 16GB card in at the moment, but it's good to have the capacity in the future. Can't get over how much better the screen looks, so bright and crisp, and the whole unit runs faster it seems. 3D Map mode is nice as well (pretty sure the standard unit didn't have that).

For me dealing with the old unti was a PITA. As I said earlier, the thread locked screws for the old screen just would not budge, and that was the only complication. In the end I just prized the mounts off the sides of the screen and bent the arms back slightly to fit through the hole in the facplate, so as it is, the old unit is not really fit to be sold.

To be honest though, the £450 I paid has been more than worth it without worrying about getting anything back on the old one.

Did the 64GB card work?

I've just sold my Kufatec / Alpine setup so I'm thinking of upgrading the RNSE to this one, just wish I could keep the reverse camera.

Hasn't arrived yet...I always opt for the free delivery option not the expensive next day option.

how do you deal with the two big cards? i.e. A-M on one car, N-Z on the other, as far as artists go?

I thought about that but switching to card2 to hear Radiohead might be annoying.

Anyone figure out

a) how to have playlists that work? Will the Apple playlists work? I haven't tried
b) how to 'mix' the whole card, or an artist's entire album collection?

On the AMI there's an 'ALL' option within each artist for example, functionality within the iPod I believe.

One card has albums from single artists/groups and the other has albums that are collections (e.g. Summer Jazz, Mothers Day,...)

a) I use Playlist Creater 3 to make m3u files which I put in the root folder of the SD card.
b) IIRC there are 3 mix options: off, single folder and whole card. I'm pretty sure there isn't an option for all albums from an artist - unless you put them all in one folder.

The 64GB card arrived today so I'll copy a few albums onto it and see what happens next time I take the RS out.

Does anybody know where I can get the facia plate /surround for the RS4/A4 for this? I'd like to buy one and swap the facia so it fits without taking my old one apart, then I can sell the old...

Thanks

Contact this geezer. Patrol Dave might be able to vouch for him as I got his details from a similar thread on another forum. I can't vouch for him, I don't know him and haven't used him.

A full OEM 2010+ unit including matching faceplate for your car was about 1699euros this time last year. Faceplates alone should be about 199euros...

I hope this helps.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Seems all the 2010 units on eBay are for the Audi A3, so I think the best idea is buy one of those, swap the faceplate I already have from my RS4 onto the A3 unit, then attach the A3 faceplate to the existing RS4 unit and flog it on eBay as an Audi RNS-E to suit an A3.

Saves buying what I already have.

Thanks

I can vouch for Albert, I've bought both my RNS-E's from him and recommended several people to buy from him and never had anything but good feedback about him.
