Re: RE: Re: RE: RS4 or TTRS

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: RS4 or TTRS
Thanks for all the comments guys.
All the differing views match the thoughts running through my head.
I had hoped to be telling you what I went for, but the RS4 sold before it had arrived at the dealers. It had recaros and not bucket seats so I wouldn't have bought it anyway. I had planned to test drive a TTRS in Glasgow but on the day I was travelling down from Inverness the A9 was closed due to a crash. I then had to make my way down the A86 and A82 through Glencoe which was very scenic but made me very late. I made it to the dentist but not to the test drive.
The journey in the Subaru was a revelation. The overtaking ability of it was astonishing, from 40-70 it was ferocious. I am still going to sell it but I have even more respect for its performance now.
So, I am no closer to making a decision.
I am not buying until I have test driven everything. I do keep thinking about the S4 I test drove with an s-tronic box. It was very good.
I had been thinking about the RS5 but it isn't a big leap in performance. I was saving for a Nissan GTR but I just don't have the time to take it to Edinburgh for servicing. Yes, I am that busy with work and family. If I am not working I want to be with the family and not spending time getting the car serviced. That is why I am selling the Subaru.
Thanks.
Chris

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: RS4 or TTRS
I am not getting a TTRS.
I was starting to think a new RS5 or a second hand R8.
Then my friend gives me a call tonight to tell me he is going to see a 911 C4S at the Porsche dealer in Edinburgh. So, his RS4 will be available. It is immaculate, a December 2006 phantom black. It has just gone out of warranty. It had a health check and came back in perfect condition.
What should I offer him for it? I could keep it for a year and then go into an RS5 or R8
It is black with bucket seats sat nav and 18000 miles, serviced about 1 month ago. DRC was fine.
I had decided against an RS4 because they are getting old but his is in showroom condition.
What should I offer him??????

LOL - my ribs are killing me reading this - you need to do stand up.....jonathonturner wrote:not that bad to insure at sheila's wheels too....

But seriously, I dont think the TTRS will be anywahere near as good as the RS4. I'm selling my 2008 sti also (for an RS4) so maybe we're on a similar vehicle journey.
Driven both and world's apart - it had the same dead centre as my wife's TDi S-Line which we're beginning to modify quite a lot, but scratching our heads as to how to get rid of it.
They are designed for two completely different markets, cracking car the TT, but no RS4.
Good luck and go for it!!

Whilst it sounds a good one & if it is what you want then I would definitely say go for it but I can't help thinking that is a bad idea if your plan is to only keep it for one year as when you come to sell it a) won't be "known" by the purchaser, b) will have had health check a year ago etc.
I'd say if you are going to keep it then go for it & don't worry if price gives your friend a good deal as you will be getting one too but if you really want something else it could be harder to shift for good money than first think...
Incidentally be wary about saying you will give your friend PX value as often dealers will load any discount would have given onto the PX making the PX look very generous.

Good sales pitch IMO, planting a seed of thought that the model is better/quicker than what it really is......great for virul advertising.caldy wrote:I'm sure my fellow Neckarsulm factory visitors can confirm, but I'm vaguely remembering a comment from our tour guide that the development version of the TTRS was quicker round the Nurburgring than a V8 R8 and therefore had to be de-tuned prior to release!
Dave, your back wouldnt cope with all that bending down to get in & out!

RE: Re: RE: RS4 or TTRS
a TTRS with a mild amount of tuning...i.e exhaust, airfilter, front mount and a remap will SMASH the crap out of an RS4 in every way...because it has...erm....whats that word...oh yea......TORQUE!!!! and huge amounts of it from low RPM. BOOST is the way forward!
