Never mind, you'll get over it soon
It's a damned fine reliable piece of kit I'll have you know. Going to get an RS4 next year though, maybe.
Once you get an RS4 you'll have a different opinion of an ST3...

Is that after the DRC fails, the starter coil pack fails, the boot lid fills with water, the software needs updating and I've had to have the disks and pads replaced after £10k?

Only joking, I'm seriously tempted.

People used to but loads of BMW M3’s, now they don’t they buy an RS4 instead because they are better, so more people have the cars, the number of those drivers being cocks will increase.

Simple maths really. I have an RS4, but have to admit some of the drivers of these cars (naturally not me) could be described as cocks. By the way, try a cock at Christmas, roasted it’s as good as a turkey!

Sorry RS4 drivers, no offence intended!

Well I wasn't impressed when my Dad had to have a new steering rack, new oil pump, new alternator and new water pump on his Focus after only 25K miles - and Ford wouldn't contribute a penny to the over £2000 bill.

Of the 5 things you mention I've only had 1 done (software update). I have no DRC problems, no coil pack problems, no water in the tailgate (I've got an Avant - the only proper RS) and I'm still on the original discs and pads after 27K miles (with no disc damage).

I always remember a designer at Ford's Dunton R& D Centre saying to me that when something goes wrong with a car the owner tells 7 people, but something just "works" they don't tell anyone. A classic case of the silent majority...

Agreed about the telling people of problems bit. How many RS4's sold in total compared to the problems outlined by owners on the forum? An insignificant amount one would think, certainly not enough to put me right off (although it has a bit I must admit) but when the time comes to buy I'll post back on here with requests for help and guidance.

Cheers, Simon.

it seems decent rs4s are slowly becomming harder to find. Pee heads numbers have reduced, the dealers have the same cars that are either wrong spec, too much or higher miles.

Car sales normally are slow around xmas, there will be more in the new year I would think. It seems to me that RS prices are starting to hold up a bit now.
