Defo the tyres mate, no way should the side wall behave like that, somethings gone wrong in manufacturing if you ask me and that is extremely unusual. I think they may have accidentaly made a tyre from the leftover jelly in the canteen by mistake :biggrin3:
You have the pressures correct and the size has been checked, can only be a faulty tyre. Swap the two back wheels and do the test again and I bet the issue moves to the other side :bigblink:
Even knackered DRC would not manifest itself in the tyre wall under just the load of you pressing down on it, no way, no how (unless you make arnold swart... schwarti............. the guy out of terminator look like PeeWee Herman :D ).
It's an Audi RS4 V8............. what else do you need to know!

I think he said the car was fine until he put the new rear boots on?

It almost looks like the tyres are under-inflated yet he said the tyres were set to the correct pressure.

Could it be possible that there is a restriction between the valve core and the inside of the tyre carcass somewhere? An inflation machine would read the supply pressure in the line correctly (37psi) but the pressure inside the tyre might be considerably less depending on how long the pressure was applied for.

If the wheels have just been refurbed then the valve stems would have been removed and it is possible that they might not have been put together again correctly?

Bit of a long shot I know............

easy way to check the psi. deflate tyre completely then inflate using an electric pump. Time how long it takes to go from 0psi to 40psi.
Repeat on a tyre considered to be "good". If it's about the same time then expect the valves to be fine. Any restriction as noted above would mean the dodgy tyre would appear to inflate much quicker

I had an issue with a set of 215/30/19's once on another car and the walls completely delaminated. Problem was the profile was so low and they had stretch you couldn't tell, they just started to fall apart!

Glad you have pinned it down to the tyres and also managed to keep it out of a ditch!

I'm not gonna say anymore than I am booked in with Kwik-Fit Ashford 8am for 2x new tyres. Apparently its british tyre standards procedure that no replacement or refund can be authorised until checks are done. I always thought if you bought something and it was not fit for purpose then you are entitled to replacement or refund right away? Oh well.......

The problem is due to the nature of a tyre.
It is quite rare (but possible) for a modern tyre to be so defective it is found within such a short distance. The issue is that tyres operate in a very tough environment and it would only take one bad pot hole hit at speed at the wrong angle to ruin any tyre. That's not a manufacturing defect so understandably not covered by a warranty.
However doesn't help the person who it does happen to.

If there's no damage to the tyre I can't really see how they can do anything but give you a refund, impact damage is normally quite obvious, from pinch marks or tyre wall bulges

Hi Mark,

Just a thought, but did you buy the tyres using a credit card? If all tests point to defective materials from black circles you can expect to be protected.

Worth a front to back swap, and I have certainly experienced a 30-40 miles of 'soft' tyre feel in past motors after new fitting (bedding in, warming up and cooling to sit properly) but nothing like you are showing.

Good luck.

Cheers
Dan

Just read the other posts and mine seems redundant if you are sorted!
