Audi policy towards cars outside of 3 years is quite frankly shocking....
Is any other manufacture any different?

After nearly 4 years, I still haven't considered selling...probably because it still has the wow factor, feels and looks special/good.

The only car that I may be tempted to, has an '8' in it's name :)

listen, if your hapy with thhat approach then fine, but the bottom line for me is, it has to make sense. I couldnt care less what something actually costs in terms of purchase price, but the depreciation curve has to be acceptable, as do the running costs.

i lost 17k in 10 months on an e60 M5 which i bought brand new in 2005. I was/am still of good financial footing but that was an unexpected and bitter pill. My 997 turbo lost 6k in 3 months. Thas life, but these things are scaleable and given rs4's are now mid 20k cars i think 10k a year is pretty much unnaccetable, which was teh anticpated cost of another 12 months in my spring blue avant.

the thing that really put me off keeping my rs4? the ever growing list of niggles and the inability and reluctance of audi to accept and resolve them.If Mrc was closer i may have reconsidered, but it isnt, and i'm a busy boy, so am not schlepping around the country to get things sorted. I buy a car with a warranty, and i expect to be able to give it to a dealer who knows what they are doing, and is willing and enthusiastic about getting me and my prized posession sorted and smiling again. Audi policy towards cars outside of 3 years is quite frankly shocking....

its a combination of things really.

i'd have another, but having had 2, its time for me to move on, certainly for the time being.
Again John, agree totally, esp the udi bit.

Blame the lack of early morning coffee, my spelling is just as bad.

Anyway, as I have said, the RS4 has been the best car I have owned. Myself (and others) are not disputing that, its just time to move on......however I may be back if I don't like the ISF and a late model RS4 (with the right spec ) appears - who knows.

Cheers for all info over the last few years, esp when initially buying. One of the better forums (incl the banter).

All this scary talk of huge depreciation is really making me think now. I've just paid a deposit on another car and am about to very reluctantly put my Impreza 22B on the market . However, having owned it for 5 fantastic years now and seen it hold its value (@£23000) it might make more sense to keep it and sell the RS! Hmmmm. I'd better think fast.
Absolutely love both cars, in very different ways, but i always justified owning both (to myself), with the fact that the Impreza was better than money in the bank being pretty much depreciation proof. However, I would be slightly uncomfortable selling the one thats 'solid' financially and keeping the one thats gonna lose shedloads of dosh over the next wee while. To me, both are not essential daily drivers so are unlikely to run up many miles and therefore devalue so much. I'm trying to re-convince myself again!

i'd keep the 22b for sure.

i think they will go up in value, makes no sense to get rid unless you need the dough, or the room?

Try not to think about depreciation but I can see the sense in Jonathans comments - there is a limit after all. I may have to move back to the US in the summer and I bought my car main dealer 6 months ago with 15000 miles - I expect to get raped if I have to bow out within a year only. Otherwise I would like to keep it for at least 3 years...

I said that last year when I decided on buying an RS4 to replace both my cars,- A4 Avant 3.0TDI and the 22B, However when it came down to it I couldnt bring myself to market the B so that was exactly what I said after the 3.0tdi was sold.

However this time 1 car absolutely HAS to go, and as I've had the Scoob for 5 years and the Audi for 1 year I think it has to be the 22B. Mind, I've got something very nice to replace it with :) , that also wont/shouldn't depreciate very much either. Ive got upto 8 weeks to sell either before I get it. Might just put up both and let fate decide!

I bought my RS4 for £51k new 4 years ago, now it is probably worth £30k (black saloon, 18k miles, v high spec and mint).
$0% depreciation in 4 years is very good, although a lot to do with my low mileage.

The RS4 was instead of the planned 2nd hand 996TT due to impending fatherhood, and still hanker after a 911. But I have taken the worst of the depreciation hit, the car has been faultess apart from DRC and is cheap to run (apart from fuel and tax).

So this week I decided to keep it and reward myself with some hazzydayz upgrades (digi TV, BT and ipod) and a trip to MRC

Still love the looks, and driving experience and makes financial sense to actually keep this one for a while longer.
