Both on 19" ers as far as I know.sims wrote:Both on same size wheels?drcarrera wrote:
I was never totally convinced by the PASM on mine (it was a gen 1 997 - perhaps it's better on the gen 2).
In sport mode it was too harsh over anything other than smooth surfaces, and rather "jiggly" for want of a better word. Whilst the comfort setting was a bit too soft and at high speed lacked feel.
I had a non-PASM car as a loaner for a couple of days and personally found that much better in all situations. Such things are often down to personal prefence, though ...
Carrera 2S or RS4?

I've done it, the RS4 is going in favour of the 997 C2s. I'll be selling the RS privately on Pistonheads and also on here. If anyone is interested then keep an eye out for it in the next day or so. It's got a lot of extras like Brembo big brake conversion, Sachs performance clutch, H&R roll bars, full Milltek non-res incl hi-flow downpipes etc and it's been looked after superbly by myself, always treated to Swissvax and Zymol products. One of the best examples and goes like stink. MRC have also ported/flowed the inlet manifold and custom remapped it.

I found the C2s's a bit wallowy at the front PASM off which is why I went for a C4S. PASM is a pretty clever peice of kit, it alters from very soft to I beleive near its firm setting when switched off, it reads how its being driven and alters accordingly. I very very rarely use PASM on because the road needs to be pretty smooth and dry to benefit from it and in reality the only place you need it is on a track.

I do know that Cayman S's ride much better on 18"s than 19"s, as does the E90/92 M3. But 19"'s look betterdrcarrera wrote:Both on 19" ers as far as I know.sims wrote:Both on same size wheels?drcarrera wrote:

Which one did you go for Karl? Stirlings or Broughtons?karl wrote:I've done it, the RS4 is going in favour of the 997 C2s. I'll be selling the RS privately on Pistonheads and also on here. Is it worth selling the bits off the RS4 and bringing it back to near stock?
That Brembo big-brake conversion could be interestingARSEY4 wrote:Which one did you go for Karl? Stirlings or Broughtons?karl wrote:I've done it, the RS4 is going in favour of the 997 C2s. I went for the Stirlings Porsche in the end; tbh the Broughton's one did for a test drive but it was never a purchase proposition.ARSEY4 wrote:Which one did you go for Karl? I've been typing up the ad for the RS this afternoon and I'm aware that it's got a lot of extras on it that I could sell separately and make more money with but I think I'll advertise it first 'as is' and see how it goes. Someone is going to get a bargain, that's for sure!
Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: Carrera 2S or RS4?
I'm looking to swap my RS for a 996 Turbo atm, hopefully I won't regret it.
I am lucky enough to own a 2001 996 turbo and an rs4 avant at the moment. (the porsche will be going soon though).
The porsche is very much a drivers car but I personally prefer my rs. They seem comparably fast in real terms but I feel more confident making progress in the twisties in the audi..
Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: Carrera 2S or RS4?
I don't think you will. I own both, and am selling the RS now.^Qwerty^ wrote: I'm looking to swap my RS for a 996 Turbo atm, hopefully I won't regret it.
Main reasons:
- Torque. Head-splitting grin every time
- The feeling of driving a true sports cars (no offence meant)
- Addictive handling. A bit like Uma Thurman. Objectively not the prettiest but really grows on you
- Everyday practicality and mechanical reliability. Reliability has been hands down better than my RS4
- Did I mention the torque?

"Aerodynamics is for those who cannot manufacture good engines" - Enzo Ferrari

Doesn't too much torque get in the way of spirited driving though?feelou wrote: - Torque. Head-splitting grin every time....

Having owned both, I would opt for the Porsche providing you don't need the space/4 doors of the RS4. They are both easy to drive and live with on a day to day basis however, the Porsche is lighter and IMHO, a better drivers car. When it comes to warranty/maintenance, there are many many more Porsche specialists to choose from than there are RS4 specialists. In addition, some Porsche indies offer lifetime maintenance plans (such as Hartech) that are a more cost effective route than an OPC warranty, mods are exceptable. As far as reliability/known issues is concerned, they are equal.
