Over the years I've always driven the fastest car I could afford at the time.

And having suffered the diabolical build quality of Rover, the ridiculously thin metal of Renault, etc. I really appreciate the build quality of the RS4.

I also appreciate the fact that Audi understand that performance cars should also have all the "toys" - Rover deleted electric windows from a car I ordered from them because they were "impossible to fit", but they took me 1/2 a day to fit using the correct Rover parts bought from the nearest Rover dealer so I have to conclude that they just couldn't be ars*d to fit them.

Yes I like performance cars, but I also expect them to be properly built and designed to last and have all the comfort and convenience "toys" - so that performance cars are also luxurious cars.

Those criteria rule out the RS Focus. No snobbery, just simple purchasing decisions.

Simple purchasing decision for you as you have your own criteria, but that still does'nt make the FRS a bad car!

Someone who buys a FRS might have considered a R26R but decided that they would like rear seats - does'nt make the R26R a bad car just not what they want.

As for reliability - pretty much all cars are reliable nowadays if well maintained.
Back in the 80's and early to mid 90's BMW and Mercedes were top dogs on build quality and reliability, but now there no better than any other make.

I read that hyundai are the 4th most reliable car on the market now, more so than Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Ford etc

I for one won't be running out to buy a Hyundai as a performance car and I suspect none of you will either?

The days of relying on the "its a German car" so it must be reliable are over, there no better or worse than any other manufacture!

specifically pointing out that he had been a member for a while but didnt post due there being a lot of arseholes on here ( or words to that effect) is hardly relevant now is it?

people are entitled to opinions, and he's aired his, and we've aired ours.

to then reiterate his discontent at having his precious focus maligned, he then calls a group of posters a 'bunch of dickheads'

top bloke then?

him and his focus will be very happy together.
His opinion of how both cars handle is very much relevant. As for his opinion of this forum, members etc. It's his opinion and he is entitled to that.

Anyone who buys a car using criteria other than their own is a fool IMHO - it's your money and you drive it so if you're happy you've bought the "right" car, but if you bought a car because person X, Y or Z "says so" then you can't complain if you hate the car.

That's your criteria not mine...

According to J D Power the most reliable cars, and the ones that make their owners happiest, are mostly Japanese cars (plus Skoda!) - with the Germans quite well down the list.

Bit of a sweeping statement that - I've owned Audi's for over 10 years now - and never had a breakdown, I've always got from the A I was at to the B I wanted to get to (without an unforced diversion via C).

Sounds like you've been a bit unlucky, the RS4 is now my 5th and I have had no major issues with any (touch wood) that have meant I have broken down or needed major repair work done on them.

Now my Ford Mondeo on the other hand..... a right Friday afternoon car but I'm sure not all Fords are like that.

I would have thought that is quite self explanatory. Kind of off topic from what I was talking about though.

What is my criteria? I don't own a german car(my father does and its always going wrong) It was said as a statement! Unless..... you do believe that German cars are superior to other makes when it comes to reliability? Do you? Is that one of the reasons why you bought one?

Im just trying to get to understand why everyone thinks the FRS is crap, how many other cars do people think are crap on here, everything but a Audi!?

According to J D Power the most reliable cars, and the ones that make their owners happiest, are mostly Japanese cars (plus Skoda!) - with the Germans quite well down the list.

Ok so does that disprove that FRS's have terrible build quality (stated by a few on here) if the German cars are down the said list?

Thats a complicated way of putting that you haven't broken down!

Here's a quick question for you all?

If the Audi RS4 had a Vauxhall badge on it how many of you would still have one? I would, wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

Same as if my FRS had a Skoda badge on it - again I like it as a car not what is stamped on the front!

Now if my Hyundai Getzs had a Kia badge on the front would it make any difference? No, because its <beep> no matter what badge is on the front!

I've had a couple of "via C's" all on FASH cars, some after driving 40 miles from the Audi dealer having just purchased it

Me too, I seriously considered a Monaro before getting the S4 I had before my RS4.

My wife has a Skoda Fabia 1.2, and I really enjoy driving it - not for the performance (it hasn't got any!) but for the unusual engine note - it's a 3 cylinder engine - and it's "honesty".

That's how I felt about the last MG badged car I had.

I also thought about a VXR8 prior to the RS4 so don't think all RS4 owners are badge snobs - the thing that put me off was the 15mpg!! and the fact it would be worth bugger all in 3 years time.
Hate to say it but the new Insigna VRX is nice....
