This sounds like a great way to do it? Up for that!!stevez wrote:All the dates here are public lapping dates i.e. Touristenfahrten. Typically the 'ring is open all day on most Sundays in the summer, and for a couple of hours on a Saturday. It is quite rare now for it to be open all day Sat and Sun over a weekend.pad125 wrote:I'm finding it difficult to decipher which dates are Private and which are Public, my German is about as good as my Swahili. The link below is an indication to the cost although the petrol to/from and circuit petrol might be a little under estimated as I think we can all assume a lot less than 20mpg.

I would also like to think that none of us would be taking up the ‘optional extras’ at the bottom of the page.![]()
More to follow
What you can do is get an early tunnel crossing on Sat morning and get to Nurburg for the evening session (its 4 hours to Nurburg from Calais).
You can the spend most of Sunday lapping and then head home catching one of the late tunnel crossings c.10.30pm back to Folkestone.
If you do it this way, Sunday is hell of a lot of driving, but as it's only a 48hr trip your Tunnel crossing will only cost £49!

Current car..... hmmmmm????

Thanks Steve, that does sound like it might fit in with most people’s plans for time off work (and family!) I'll try and post something over the weekend that we can all fill in with our preferences’ and see what the majority is.
Some guys from the NE expressed a preference to go via Amsterdam, I’ll take a look at the route and see if there’s a natural meeting point on the way or whether we change our route to take in a better bit of road on the way, suggestions welcome.

Sorry for the delay guys, weather too nice at the weekend to sit behind the computer. Anyway, here we go……
Dates/Times
I’ve checked out the Eurotunnel crossings Folkestone/Calais and the costs are at the top for each date in the table below.
I’ve looked into Newcastle/Hull to Holland crossings and DFDS website says they’re all booked which I don’t believe so I’ve give them a call later today and get clarification. aferry do a service from Hull to Rotterdam but they don’t appear to do an early Saturday morning and a late Friday night crossing involves booking a cabin (compulsory) and it’s a fortune. If Caldyt/5th Gear know of a better way please let me know.
I’ve listed dates below that have back-to-back Saturday/Sunday availability although not all have full days i.e. Saturday starts at 17.30 for 2 hours so it wouldn’t be such a rush to get there but limited track time. Sunday is a full day with the exception of 04.10.09, which is a 17.30 start 19.00 finish.
There are dates available in May and June but, gauging initial response, later in the year is better……unless you tell me different of course!
Costs
Costs for the circuit are as follows, be sure to read the all the page as there’s interesting reading at the bottom.
http://www.nurburgring.org/prices.html
Also, consider the points made in the next link as I’m sure we are aware of the risks but as time is on our side it’s worth dusting of those insurance policies to check the small print, in any case travel insurance with the ‘extreme sports’ section wouldn’t go amiss for the extra few quid it costs.

Accommodation
I’ve not yet contacted any venues until we know the numbers/dates, if you could fill in the form below using the following key I’d be grateful.
Use A,B,C,D or E as you 1st, 2nd etc choice of date, If all of the dates are good for you use A in all instances as I have done.
Put the number of people that require a room and type of room, i.e. 2T, 2 people twin room, 3TS, 3 people, 1 twin, 1 single. Sorry if this overcomplicates things, PM me if your circumstances need detailing.
The link below is a sample of what’s available; I’ll check actual availability when we know numbers
